Testing a Cheap Painting Kit

Hey Guys! Today I am testing out another art and craft kit. It has been SUCH a long time since I've done a review for a creative kit like this. In the past, I've seen pretty bad results with these, but this time i was determined to make something cute out of it, no matter how crappy the kit was. Hope you enjoy the video!
I am testing out the Genius Art Mold and Paint Cupcakes kit. They have a whole line of the mold and paint kits with all kinds of different shapes to choose from. It is pretty simple and involves making plaster and molding it into cute shapes, then decorating with paint. I took it a step further and had to do quite a bit of troubleshooting. Also decided to turn my plaster cupcakes into DIY pins. I also think making magnets, ornaments or keychains out of these would be cool. The kit has a lot of imperfections, but it did keep me busy for several days, so it can be a good creative activity to do when you're bored.

Moriah!!!! With plaster, it is best to mix with your hands, to make sure you get all the lumps out. If you do plaster casting again, I would recommend coating the bowl in a LIGHT layer of Vaseline, the make clean up easier. Also, you should have worn a dust mask!! The holes are air pockets, if you want them gone, you would tap the mold to bring the air bubbles up to the surface. As someone with some experience in plaster, this kit was trash....oof

I am not a painter at all, I am very bad at it. But, I am a sculptor. I make a lot of my own colors when I sculpt, so Moriah's chocolate paint recipe actually helped me to make my chocolate sculptures look less dead.

Ok, I'm going to be the one to say it: 1 milliliter of water has the weight of 1 gramm. Shocking, I know. There is a measurement system outside of the US that actually makes perfect sense. If you don't have something with a milliliter volume scale on it, just put your random bowl on the scale, change it to gramm display if it isn't already, tare it, fill in the water until you have weighted the amount you needed in milliliters and you're good to go. I actually almost never use volume measurements for liquids in my kitchen. Even with milk (although the density is quite off, but there is just a tad difference), I simply weigh it right in the mixing bowl or pot I need it in. No need to have any measuring cups that need to be cleaned afterwards.

Hey Moriah, just wanted to say the holes are not your fault. I have worked with plaster before and holes are very normal, to help avoid this you can shake it around or tap on your desk, etc. Getting all the lumps out by mixing it helps too. Love you :)
