My Own Creation: DIY Sprinkle Globe

I decided to create something kind of unique today. It's basically a diy snow globe, but since we are past the Christmas season, I decided to put a twist on it and make a DIY sprinkle globe, with a touch of magic. I hand sculpted the inside piece and created a custom base. I even tried resin for the first time! Hope you enjoy.

Hey! my name is Moriah (pronounced muh-rye-yuh) Elizabeth and this is my channel....obviously. I'm 29 and like doing creative activities (mostly painting on things), or really anything that gives me an excuse to use rainbows, sprinkles and my own cutesy characters in excess. I'm heavy into editing, so my video are chalk full of sound effects, filters and lil....moments, or as we like to call them "MEmes." I paint on squishies, thrift store finds, and various other items I find. I also love to draw, traditionally and digitally. I'm not the most skilled artist out here, but I like to focus on having fun with creativity and being able to laugh at my own mistakes.

Hey Moriah, something I learned while messing around with snowglobes is that to achieve a slow falling, soft floating effect with the sprinkles and snow, you can use baby oil, either mix it with water 1:1 ratio or leave it as it. It's much denser than water, and so the sprinkle will be suspended for longer.

Hey Moriah, first of all, I know you are incredibly busy, however, I am an avid snow globe collector, and owning one of yours would be an absolute dream come true! Baby oil will yellow over time. Water and glycerin is how a true waterglobe is made. Baby oil is more "craft kit" for kids.

Hahaha I teach the Kids Workshop at Home Depot and I got real tickled at your seething dislike of foam brushes. Trust me I feel you. I use those for the workshop. I know in crafting small decorative bottles (we even used the ones your nail art beads were in!) , we used to always use baby oil to create that sort of snow-globe effect as items would, well, sink to the bottom or float with water but since you're making a shaking charm of sorts, I highly suggest baby oil! You can even ask @Nerdecrafter since you two do talk I believe? I know that she's made a few shaker charms with the resin crafting kit Elf Boxes and such in the past so perhaps it's something to look into! A shaker charm would look pretty neat for your squishies or perhaps a mass product for sale in your merch store, too!

​@nicodiangelo1942 she did it correct by adding the glycerin that is how a waterglobe is made. Baby oil will yellow over time. Also straight glycerin would make it bubbly when shook.

Admittedly I made these years and years ago before resin was all that readily available (UV that is) but that's pretty cool to know. I never had any yellowing problem with baby oil myself, though, how strange.@@tkgosselin

not only that, water has a tendency to either leak OR simply evaporate over time! Baby oil I haven't seen have much problem, glycerin is - well I've read that it's better? The comically large cake is just everything. I love it. Also snow globes aren't just a Christmas thing. I've seen them for other holidays, events, and things of that nature.

I find it interesting that, even though you fully coated the inner cake with a glossy top coat & resin, once it was inside the water it appeared matte once again. Really fun idea. I love that you thought ahead to do sprinkle testing. Hopefully, the rubber band bits don't disintegrate with time.

The quality even when it’s at like 720 looks like HD quality, and the 1080 looks like HD HD quality! Moriah has been the youtuber that inspired me to do art. Her video quality is just *chefs kiss*. I feel you with the foam brushes being very annoying. A technique that works very similarly is dry brushing. It works best with a brush with thick bristles or a cheap scratchy brush so it will leave more texture. All you have to do is wipe off most of the paint from the brush onto a paper towel to leave just enough to add texture. I hope that helps!
