"Most underrated band" is the most common comment about Budgie. Still, I feel pride in my discovery of them early on and being able to turn my friends on has been a joy. Nothing too much wrong with being a large fish in a smaller pond. That is success, too.
@MarkBoden-f4b3 ай бұрын
I take long breaks from listening to Budgie and then rediscover them after the break and EVERY time I go, "man are these guys so good". I am amazed that they were not absolutely hugely successful. There are so many far worse bands that made it bigger. Love Budgie...always will. If you don't know who they are, you will be amazed if you give them a listen.

Doubting you will read this but same is happening right now with me. Jaw dropped and first thought was how have I not heard these guys. Budgie was just a name on a notebook when I was a kid. My brothers and their friends whittled away school hours by writing band names all over their notebooks. I copied a lot of them not even knowing who some of the bands were. Budgie was one of those bands.

The early 80s had great music. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio era Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Rush, Belew/Levin era King Crimson, Zappa, more punk/ new wave stuff like Iggy Pop, Talking Heads, Devo, Dead Milkmen, even Alice Cooper went new wave during his coke fuelled early 80s. Lots of killer party soundtrack music.
@vonjunzt41303 жыл бұрын
@@markrago5024 When people talk shit about '80s' music they miss all those bands you just mentioned. I think those cheesy Casio synths and drum machines ruined a lot of music in the early 80s. But AC/DC had their mega selling LP Back in Black in 1980, and even Mutt Lange couldn't ruin it! Mutt Lange and Bob Rock (of Bon Jovi and Metallica fame) kinda ruined hard rock/metal for me, trying to score arena rock hits and smoothing over too many rough edges (and what's rock with some rough edges?)

I'm an American and I know we "invented" rock-'n'-roll but damn, you Brits perfected it!!! I love ALL the British invasions and NWOBHM is a particular favorite of mine. I used to think Saxon was Britain's (Wales) best kept secret, not anymore, Budgie rocks!!!!!!! Although I prefer the 70s prog records, with the crazy song titles, hilarious album covers, and 9 min songs with 50 movements per. I wonder why they never released an album called "Smugglers" 😁
