A friend of mine confided in me that our bishop had asked her inappropriate questions about her confession regarding the law of chastity; the things he said to her really creeped me out. What made it worse was that I had grown up knowing that bishop, he and his wife were friends with my parents and had even babysat us. Nothing had ever happened to me by him but when my friend told me about her experience it made me realize you never really know someone. What made me realize how the church protects this behavior was when I told other members in a support group they defended him.. their attempt to minimize his predatory behavior made me sick.

That’s horrible, and yes the church covers it all up. Do you have a way to contact her? Cohoe you put her in touch with me? I’d like to see if she maybe has a case.

Also it baffles me that he and many others still hold a position. I did some office clerking at one point as a teen, and being curious, I came across a deacon’s case file about his previous excommunication. It was nonconsensual incest towards his own daughter! From what I’ve read, the daughter was allowed to move away to some other congregation and wanted nothing to do with him, which was honored by the elders. However, he still holds a position!

That's amazing that you are taking your influencer position to actually help people. I love the sound of that law firm. My husband used to work at a law firm that represents a lot of BYU cases. I wish he could work at a law firm like the one you partnered with. We have been out for over 4 years. It's been such a beautiful journey out.

The pattern I see left and right is resistance from the Church to deal with problems.

Yes unfortunately too true. They must be forced by litigation to protect future victims from being victimized by creating change to protect.

Church leaders DO know. But 1) those with any power are of extreme age, lacking energy to deal with such a rooted and pervasive problem. And 2) abusers tend to be wily. My abusive relative. for instance, on being outed in his family, preempted church discipline by going directly to an apostle, confessing his guilt (along with elaborate excuses), and claiming repentance.

One shouldn't paint with too broad a brush concerning incidents of abuse, and wrong doing in Religion ! Remember we are all Human, and prone to mistakes ! But there are those that are just of the World, and evil ! Typically, predators can hide in plain sight ! Many times for years ! Until they do something so egregious that it draws attention to themselves ! But this should not be placed on the Religion ! Just as the paying of Tithes ! That is your unwritten contract between GOD and the individual ! What that money then becomes used for, whether it be Fancy Cars, Boats, or a Mansion on the hill, that is between GOD, and the person that serves as liaison, between the congregation and GOD ! Be it Pastor, Minister or Priest ! Remember too, that we will all be held accountable, for our Words, as well as our Deeds ! Pray !

Whoa that’s a lot. Religion according to data is the single most deadly thing humans ever invented. Period.

@@lifetaketwo7662 I believe where your confusion may lie, is the number of atrocities that have occurred, under the , " Name " of Religion ! Once again at the hands of Evil Men in the World ! Important to understand, as Scripture teaches, Ephesians 6:12 : Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world. If you would look around you, at everything horrible that is happening in the World, The Wars, the rumors of Wars, the once dormant volcanos erupting, the seemingly worsening weather, etc., these are known as Birth pains, in much the same way a woman about to give birth experiences ! This Scripture warns for he that has knowledge, know ! These are Signs of the Second coming of Christ ! Too, you give Man too much credit, claiming that he invented Religion ? That is so much folly ! As there is nothing new, under the Sun ! Don't be fooled by what this World is offering ! As Satan is the Ruler here ! And those that refuse to believe, already have their rewards ! I hope that you consider looking into what is happening before your very eyes ! Sometimes the old adage of, " You can't see the forest for the trees " is indeed true ! Assalamualaikum @✌️

@@lifetaketwo7662 Not to be argumentative, but you mentioned, " Data ", then " Numbers ", So not sure from where you are drawing this information ? But would caution you to understand that those crunching the numbers may lean them towards whatever agenda they are trying to promote ? You impress me as maybe being young, and perhaps naive ? Perhaps too, one of the generations that allows the internet to do their thinking for them ! Or......you could be an AI ? But glad I caught your eye ! 👍😉

I've been a member my whole life and have served in multiple positions including assistant scout master, primary teacher, first counselor and many others. I've never personally known any abusers and everyone who've I've associated with has gone the extra mile to ensure the safety and protection of children. I know predators exist in all walks of society but given the extraordinary measures and oversight that the church goes through to vet members and ensure child safety I can't see how any predator would think the church is a viable vehicle for predatory behavior. My heart goes out to anyone who has been abused but I can't imagine a safer a place than the church for any and all of God's children.

Well, if YOU can’t image it, if YOU have never experienced it and if YOU have never seen it, then “it” must not be real. It’s’ a not a problem. People should just shut up about it.

THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS, is not to be blamed, when some, make mistakes.
@MontanaMomma13 ай бұрын
WRONG! As long as the church does not have a mandatory reporter policy and does NOT do background checks on youth leaders they are guilty! Get informed and insist on transparency. The Christian church in America is losing the battle to keep Jesus due to their stiff- neckedness and inability to hurt down perpetrators! The LDS are at the top of the list. The FBI is currently investigating a church in Northern California for hidden pedophiles and I hope they are successful. It would send a message to churches that they will be held accountable for not pursuing the law in these matters!!!
