@@CultstoConsciousnessback in the late 90s, i nannied after school for a couple with autistic nonverbal twins & their 9 year old son. They were Mormons. I remember her mentioning something about spirit babies and all these crazy conversations her mother was trying to drag her back in to. They had moved from Utah to NJ specifically to my area because, for the time, we had a school system with REALLY good services for autistic children like her twins. She hated what they had in Utah and said it was glorified babysitting. Looking back, I am wondering what else she was running away from. Her relationship with her parents sounded pretty good, outside of the religious things that I thought was incredibly wacky from my NE coast flavor of Baptist view. I have no idea what else she mentioned, my brain was stuck on loop trying to figure out what the hell she meant by spirit and shadow babies! In NJ, we had absolutely zero understanding of Mormon beliefs beyond the polygamy. Knowing what I know now, I’m glad she left and her husband left the church with her (they have not gone back), and his parents at least didn’t shun them. I cannot imagine the immense guilt the religion placed on her for how disabled her kids were. I miss those twins, they were so much fun. (Turns out I’m autistic too and probably why I got on and understood them so well.)

No weirder than the concepts of all major monotheistic religions. They're all just taking a page from one another's book of power to dominate, oppress, gain power and wealth, and feel morally superior. If everyone could open their eyes to see the parallel between what they're deeming strange here, compared to their own unrealistic ideology- the world would be a much better, more sane and peaceful place

To my knowledge, they aren't teaching that anymore, but they gaslight you that they never taught that, tho you can find essays and other church material on their website, that still says it. But if you know nothing else, it's all par for the course. You are told to doubt your doubts, before you doubt your faith, and not question the elders or church leadership. Anything they don't subscribe to in their magazines or essays, or tv channel is antimormon and untrue. But if you're assaulted, they will ruin you socially and protect your a tracker because purity culture and you're responsible for men's thoughts. Still

Folks keep respecting communities like this and the Amish who exploit child labor! I love when people can tell it like it really is: heartless, dangerous, and undocmented in too many cases!

The Amish totally depends on the community. We live in a community surrounded by Amish. Nearly all the males have their own businesses by 18 or have a partnership in one. Better than english farm kids. Work their butts off on the farm for no pay just for their parents to rent it out because "they want more for their kids". 🙄

I recently had 3 Mormon boys volunteering on my property. I have never been Mormon. They shared their testimonials and read several chapters from the book during the 3 months they came. I feel so bad for 1. Taking advantage of their kindness (I figured I was helping them get a planet). 2. They are so brainwashed. I told them I am a lesbian, coffee drinking, pot smokin, human and don't intend to change. They still tried to save me. I kindly let them know the church is too racist and misogynistic for me. They felt sad for me but appeared to know I was right. It was an odd experience.

I’m not Mormon but have always been interested in this cult when I stumbled on Mormon Stories many years ago. I have to say Benjamin was the best guest ever I’ve heard. He was able to convey and bring that church down in just over an hour and a half. There are so many Mormon families on Utube now exploiting their children and making large amounts of money which is helping the church in a big way with the tithing. I know we’re all aware of Ruby and eight passengers, also the horrific Daybell case but there are so many Utubers out there that I would love it to be addressed.

Love this channel! Thank you for introducing so many of us to Ben! He is AWESOME!!. I'm a no-mo but I am interested in the stories of those who were raised in and/or came to be members of cults. I was raised in a conservative religion (Lutheran MO Synod) including church every Sunday and 8 years of Lutheran grade school but in 1972, as a 7th grader, I led a revolt of my fellow female classmates to be able to wear pants to school. We hid them in our coats and put them on when we got to school. lol We got vocal resistance from the administrators but within a couple of weeks, we eventually won the war. Looking back, I did get an excellent education so I'm thankful for that.

I lived for a couple of years in a middle eastern country. I struggled internally on a daily basis with what I perceived as a faith that insisted women covered themselves from head to toe. In order to come to terms with this, I reminded myself that my home country of the US also had segments of society that governed women must dress a certain way in addition to other slights against them as a female in their faith. It’s a dangerous mindset when people are brainwashed to believe that being a devout woman equates to always feeling uncomfortable.

Bens story about how he was "posessed by devil" is so familiar to me. I was told I was opressed by a deacon in my non denominational IHOP (International House of Prayer) Aligned church at 12 13ish. I was having a nervous breakdown from realizing I was queer, hormone imbalances, starting to develop depression from extreme bullying, ect. It wasn't until I was 20 and left after being kicked out by a sub group for not wanting to be healed. turns out the church was my actual oppressor not a demon.

Hey, we're voting for you! Love the idea of church leadership coming clean and telling the truth with sincere apology. We love your clarity of thought. Not sure of the full trickle down effect of losing one's voice, heart and gut instincts either. One family member used to say she felt like a 'Stepford Wife." Many in our large family seem shut down, I know I was in my youth. The peer pressure is real and scapegoating seems common. Yes, we need more folks to be their true creative sparkly selves! Great Insight. Thank You Ben..

It's so nice that people have a platform to speak out and not be judged, I absolutely love these podcasts but I feel like 1 hour just Zips right by because I'm so invested with their stories. Thank you Shalise for this platform and for all the brave people that come out here and speak their truth💚🐲🐉💚

Im ex Mormon now, and when I got my temple endowments, I actually said "lol I feel like I've just joined a cult!" I SAID IT SO CASUALLY AND FLIPPANTLY! I was standing at the point and I missed it entirely! This channel has helped me deconstruct and transition out of the church. Thank you!

I've been watching a lot of your videos. Please have King Benjamin on again. He did such a great job of filling us non-former-mormons in on the history and was great at telling us about his experiences. Thanks!

@@thefreshkingbenjaminso impressed that you chose to go to therapy! Real men go to therapy. Good on you! (Also, as an Aussie, hearing to swearing your head off, is wonderful. Rude words are not cursing. They are necessary emphasisers, at times. Glad you are free enough to speak freely.)
