I find comfort in repetition and prayer rolls, but I'm hesitant on translating "βατταλογέω" as "babbling". The root word is βαττας, which is related to two things - Battus, the king of Cyrene, who had a stutter, as well as Battus, who was famous in the ancient world for tedious and wordy poems. In both situations, the word itself represents an overabundance of speech, not disordered speech. I appreciate the Orthodox response to this, of course, in that the purpose is not to be heard due to the many words, but rather the effect they might have on the human heart. However, a faulty translation is fertile ground for rebuke.

2 things I need help with 1. how do you confess to your parents that you're an Orthodox Christian. I'm almost 15, and I don't know how to tell my parents about my faith, for context my dad was a Catholic, but he stopped practicing because the clergy was corrupt, and my mom is a Buddhist. 2. I go to bed REALLY early and it's summertime now, so when I go to bed It's still sunny how do I do evening prayer If anyone can help please do, defiantly on the 1st one thank you for reading.
@BibleIllustrated Жыл бұрын
Hello, 1. This requires discussing with a priest. Bear in mind that your father has already changed faiths (from Catholic to secular); I don't know where your mother is from, but I have a hunch she wasn't born Buddhist, and you already live in a sort of multi-faith home, so I doubt they will make too much of a fuss; 2. Read them before going to sleep :)

I may not be Christian but I think these kinds of things are important for any persons spiritual journey having the ablity to give devotion to Gods & saints. Thats why I always listen to the Orthodox church they have the best advice. The Protestants usually are too busy with preaching & other things that annoy me & the Catholics do more with a problematic clergy with a Preist they claim is almighty as if a man was equal to the gods. The pope should have no authority like the Patriachs who are equals not the direct office of God.

@HomoEucharistica4 ай бұрын
For some reason I didn't succeed to find any information on "David's 7 times prayers", but I guess they correspond with the Prayers of the Hours (at 6 am, 9 am, 12 am, and 3 pm), at least on some level... With the First Hour Prayer (6 am), you could technically start with the Hour prayers and then proceed to morning prayers. But that should be discussed with a spiritual father first.

Hello Bojan, I am a Catholic (I tend more Byzantine than Roman but do what’s available to me and what’s natural to my prayer life) who is a big fan of your channel and have been for about 4 or so years now. I was wondering: what would you recommend to a Catholic who wants to pray the Jordanville prayer book as a standard prayer rule but wants to include prayers for the Pope in the way the Eastern Catholics do in their Office, and also would prefer to pray for his homeland (America) over the prayers for Russia? Would this be a poor practice to shoehorn into a private prayer rule of this sort and should I humbly follow the book? Would this be a reasonable thing in your eyes? I will of course ask my spiritual father as well but I figured I’d put a feeler out here Thank you in advance for keeping your reply ecumenical lol (please)
@ElizavetaPolianitskaia Жыл бұрын
hey Mattkosta, I'm not Bojan but I'll suggest - technically, in our prayer books the original sentence is "[we're praying] for our Godblessed land...", so it's kinda evident that it means Russia, but it's actually not specified concretely; so why wouldn't you really pray for the US as your homeland? :) (on the other hand, there is so lot of mess going on in Russia, that, if you'd ever feel that way, it'd be very nice if you pray for us.)

Forgive me for my absolute ignorance, I am a Non-denominational Christian who no longer considers himself to be Protestant and is searching for a church, but, when you say "Praying to the saints... praying to Mary", what do you mean by that? I thought Eastern Orthodox Christians venerated the saints and Mary, not prayed to them.
@BibleIllustratedАй бұрын
@@SOCKSofIRONFIST Prayer includes veneration. What makes it different from God directly is that Saints don't have a power by themselves (like God does), and our prayer to saints is essentially asking them to pray for us.

I didn't call anyone today. And yesterday. Hmmm...Should I not pray? ))) Morning or evening prayes from prayer books are almost always "skip". I don't like this texts, they don't fit me and my life at all. I cannot with a clear conscience and seriously say about myself that I have sinned by being an active sodomite or defiled by nocturnal emission (it is physiologically impossible). Or I broke the vows of a monk, did not listen to the confessor, or ate something outside the monastic dining room. It's stupid. I regularly pray during the day, reading Scripture and thinking about it, writing my prayer texts. Also, my choice is the rosary or the Jesus prayer, the reading of the Psalter and prayer canons. In the evening - meditation or menthal pray and thank God.

@@778FraxK I don't understand where you got the idea that I don't consider myself a sinner? When did the reading of morning and evening prayers according to the prayer book become the measure of spiritual life? And even less do I understand how you are so sure that you can make judgments about other people? I can throw quotes too: "Who art thou that judge another man's servant?" Romans 14:4
@SeaSelka Жыл бұрын
@@778FraxK It is necessary to make efforts in that which is strictly obligatory or of undeniable benefit. Reading morning and evening prayers does not belong to this list (for me), and any of us IS FREE TO CHOOSE the means of self-improvement. This is NOT WRONG. Regularity in prayer is necessary, but this can be achieved with the help of any other prayers from any other source, after all, the lists in the prayer book appeared less than 200 years ago and somehow people managed before. You should be less categorical in your statements, especially when you yourself are not sure that you are right (as you say)
