My only complaint with this track is that the last guitar arpeggio Jonny plays doesn't go on longer, I think it would be awesome for it to just continually build and build until it ends with that cataclysmic high pitch sound. (AKA Jonny scraping his guitar pick on the high e string next to the bridge pickup)

Yeah I always thought that bit was too short. So annoying after the build up.

I personally think it’s really funny that Thom wrote a song about a ghost, we all listened to it, paid attention to it, and ended up thinking it was about divorce. This dude could literally have sung “everything” over and over again on “everything in its right place”, never getting to any of the other lyrics, and we would still (probably) consider it one of the greatest artworks of all time.

Personally am more of a fan of the Amnesiac version, but both are amazing and I'm glad both exist.

Keep in mind also, Thom doesn't have to tell the whole truth when some journalist asks him "what does this song mean?" He could very well inwardly feel as though a divorce leaves a "ghost" of that person in the house when they leave. This is what poetry and songs do.

"Cut the kid in half" refers to a story in the Bible. 2 women came before King Solomon and both were claiming to be the mother. In his wisdom , Solomon said to cut the kid in half and give a part to each women. Solomon knew the real mother would rather give up the kid than let it die. One woman said "Yes, cut the kid in half." The other woman said "no, give it to the other woman so it doesn't die" which revealed her as the true mother and she received the kid.
