Morning CW POTA at Long Pond State Forest with the Xeigu G90

I'm back for the second installment from US-5396, Long Pond State Forest. I slept later than I'd intended to, so I wasn't sure if 80m was going to get the job done. Turns out I was right. 40m was pretty active though. The G90 got the job done. I switched to a BaMaTech TP-III for this part of the activation since the CW Morse key I was using the night before was so loud. All in all a successful activation at a rare park. Thanks again! My FX-4CR doesn't have a memory keyer either. I ordered a cheap esters one on Amazon on prime day but can't get the screws out to install batteries 😢 it will probably get returned. N7BBQ

Nice calm activation, Evan. Great example of slowing down your speed for the courtesy of new and slower ops. I had 2 of them today during my activation but I only needed to slow down from 16WPM! 😂 That was my only gripe with the G90; no memory keying. But otherwise great value.

Yeah, if it had a memory keyer I'd probably use it more. It's kind of a pain when you have to call CQ over and over by hand LOL.

Hi Evan, I have a question about your G90. I got mine a little while ago and love it. But there's one thing that frustrates me, and I'm curious if you've experienced it. The CW keyer will from time time drop a dit. For example when I send an R, it'll sometimes drop the last dit (turning it into an A). I have a feeling that it happens when I press the dit for too short (like just tapping it). None of my other radios do this, and I've tried different paddles and cables with the G90 also. I made sure it's set to iambic mode B by the way. Have you experienced this with your G90? Or has the built-in keyer been flawless for you?

I haven't experienced it on my G90, but that problem is common on Xiegu radios. I have a 6200 on loan from my buddy, and it's HORRIBLE. The keyer in the G90 is a little more finicky about timing than the rest of my radios, but it's infinitely better than the 6200

@@EvanK2EJT Oh interesting! Maybe I'm just noticing it's more finicky than my other radios. My QMX for example has a perfect keyer. I guess I'll just get used to. It's a wonderful radio otherwise.
