At 8:22 over to the left is the African American swimming pool & play ground. Here your in the black part of town if it was the 60's. Mom use to visit her bootlegger for a bottle back in the 60's, Dusty Pool was Baker Hotel bartender at the ballroom & town bootlegger. Dad & Dusty use to work at Southern Airways together.

11:18 where you turn was an old dirt road I lived on in 50's & 60's, North East 23rd Street. If you had continued nine miles there was a turn off to the left to Oliver Loving's Ranch, what's left of it. Loving was Gus in the movie Lonesome Dove.

Ok. I live in Mineral Wells. Been here all my life. Next time you are here please eat at Dairy Mart. It's amazing. Also...go to Garrett's. You will love it! And just to give you a lil history. The "welcome" sign that is on the hill....my great grandfather helped to build and install it. He also helped build the Baker...but my point is according to my older family members that have always been here...they always said that the "Hollywood" sign was inspired by our "welcome" sign. I also thought it was pretty neat.

At 13:32 if you continue up the side of the Mountain on the right is an old log cabin where one of the early photographers lived. The White building is the old USO building used during WW2. I had coin club meetings in it in 1969.

Turn before you get to 5:14 that is the old high school & next to it is the oldest standing building in Mineral Wells the Rock School House which is now the town museum. I took band classes in it and went to elementary school in the old high school. Mom, my aunts & uncles went to high school there. If you want to see ghosts, there may still be a few students that lost their minds there. Just down to the left is the awesome Jones Drive-In.

I literally have an OCD problem making sure the windows are clean and spotless on the car. Even Kayla puts her hands on the passenger door window i have a mini heart attack. Lol Try steel wool to clean up hard to clean spots and streaks on the glass. It works wonders and is relatively cheap. ONLY use it on the glass or you'll scratch things. We use it at work to get overspray off glass. Its great. Oh and if possible, make sure to hose the car off after because the steel wool that flakes off will rust and leave rust spots on the car.

Mineral Wells is not the town it used to be,which is a shame because it has potential. Originally known for its "water cures',MW was a resort community until the great depression hit. People used to come from all over the country, arriving by rail at Weatherford then taking the 26 mile short line railroad ( The Weatherford, Mineral Wells and Northwest RR, jokingly called the Whiskey, More Whiskey and No Water) over to MW. The short line was abandoned years ago and is now a rails to trail belonging to the Texas Parks System. The Old Crazy Water Hotel used to have photos in the lobby of all the famous people who stayed there,i.e.The 3 Stooges,General Pershing, just to name 2 examples. MW until the depression hit, had a Casino (yes it was illegal),and famous big bands used to play from the roof top ballroom of the Baker Hotel and be broadcast across the country.WW2 brought a second boom to MW when Camp Wolters became the biggest Infantry Replacement Training Center in the country,it's where Audie Murphy among others trained. After the war, depression again,Then Camp Wolters reopened again as the Army Primary Helicopter School and became Fort Wolters ,a "permanent" Army post. Well "permanent"only lasted until 1973 when the Army moved the Helicopter School and closed the Fort. More depression followed. Then came the "first" oil boom, and prosperity came back to MW,until the oil patch went bust. More depression. Then a second oil boom that is not as intense as the first, and it has cooled way down. But still,MW does have potential. . There is ready workforce in place, and it would be a good location for new industry.MW has an excellent airport, which is under utilized.
