It takes effort, and people who have learned Hindustani music whether from privileged backgrounds, middle-class backgrounds, less privileged backgrounds have had to go through intense training, failure, training, and hurdles and more training. And people who have learned to enjoy it and engage with it have also put in several years of dedication to learn and hardwork. I don't see this as "privileged vs unprivileged" or "musically intelligent vs being a musical dullard". Rather, if one is interested and has time to pursue a hobby, then one can, while being a non-musician, still learn it and understand it.

My love of Indian classical music has not come from any place of difficulty. What my mind doesn't understand, my deeper sense does. The gaps are always filled in somehow between my lack of technical knowledge and an inherent understanding that comes from somewhere in my heart/spirit...I am not Indian but I thank every great Indian musician who has ever lived, for being the receptive and diligent translators of the messages that come through their music, that are clearly imminating from their souls and from the Universe itself.
