Being that I've never taken care of a bird...I'm so used to seeing them kept in cages the majority of the time. Do they only spend overnights (while you're sleeping) in the cage, and then the waking hours free to roam and fly around? My main experience seeing birds had been in pet stores, being confined to thier display cages. It's nice to see these birds free to walk all over, fly all over, and interact with humans on thier own terms.

@ChatterboxParrots3 жыл бұрын
I always bring them individually to a certain stand and they just understand that, that specific stand is dedicated to them. I switch it up twice a year usually so it just takes some time for them getting used it. As far as how I get them out. I usually always get Cypress and Bob out first because they go to the playroom first but it has been a different rotation in the past.

@@ccgirl5055 You are welcome! Sometimes when I just can't tell who is who the one thing that helps is to look for their ankle band. Some have a band but a few of them dont. Some have a band on their left foot while others have it on their right foot. And of course the actual color of the band is helpful. I want to learn more about the bands. Surely there must be a reason for the colors and placement on either left or right ankle. But right now all I have are lots of questions. 😕😉
@ChatterboxParrots3 жыл бұрын
@@atomicplaygirl66 Some breeders don't use bands, some do. They can choose from a variety of colors. Some people just like to use a different color every year. Anyone can order bands you don't have to be a breeder. The band typically shows Initials of which they came from, the year they were hatched, the state they were hatched in and their hatchling number HOWEVER you can literally put whatever you'd like on a band within reason (space). No specific reason for left or right leg either, just preference from the person putting it on. Hope this helps 🙂
@atomicplaygirl663 жыл бұрын
@@ChatterboxParrots I cannot thank you enough. Truly I have tried to google the what/why/how of bands but found nothing. I was taught Punnett squares in biology and now I can see how fun it must be to breed these beautiful birds. Learning their dominant and recessive genes. All that stuff must be so cool when you get to see it play out when they hatch. I think perhaps the bands could be better served if breeders accepted a universal method when placing them. It seems like a missed opportunity to have so many band colors but no scientific reason for them. At the very least it would be helpful that females get a left ankle band and males get a right a.b. If that was universally accepted it would sure make things easier. Ha ha. I know you must get so tired of people not knowing whether your birds are boys or girls. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with me. Your flock is incredible! Please tell Ellie May and Bob happy 2nd bird-day from me! 🎂

Are these african greys? Baby parrots? My daughter's parakeet died last week and the house seems so empty. I discovered that she isn't sure if she's ready for another bird, but I need an emotional/psychiatric support animal. I got an episode of Bell's Palsy and couldn't whistle at our bird. It made me feel bad because he was used to it and when I got home from the hospital, he would do his routine expecting to be whistled at and I couldn't whistle. I did physical therapy on my own, just for the birdie, and I regained function of my face and mouth. But now he's gone and I feel like something's missing, like I'm forgetting something, and there's more anxiety now that he's gone. So, can you give me some info on these birds you have?
