I miss the OG days of fragcom when we had tswetcoff, Robes08, JRWriter, Streetscents, Redolessence, Hiro, Frunkinator, Dradoc, Mymickers as the go to reviewers. I’ve been in and out of the community sporadically over the years and miss the days when it didn’t feel so commercial and shallow. A lot of people are in it for a quick buck whether it be reviewers or flippers in fragrance groups. Keep staying true to yourself man. You still provide that authentic fragrance community vibe!

I like watching your videos bro! Reviews and morning/midnight thoughts. You're a real one. 1 of the few reviewers I'm sub'd to cause you're right, alot of these people just come off fake or extra and I keep it moving. May be for some people but not for me. Keep being you and keep up the great content. Love and respect from Texas.

I follow a few other communities on YT and it is a recurring theme. Once a community grows large enough, there is money to be made and you will see YT thots and con-men try to take advantage of said community. They have no passion, just a motive to take money from passionate people. However, these people are quite easy to spot if you keep your wits about you.

Honestly, this is one of the most reflective video about the current status of the community for a while. There are two milestones which led to this situation in my opinion. First, when KZbinrs started to see themselves as influencers and second when everyone believed he/she needs to create an own fragrance to be a legit part of the community… so sad.

Thank you for being you the whole way through. I am a newbie on this KZbin scene but I have been collecting for quite sometime now, and the mere fact that people have one video given praise to a fragrance than the next saying get this fragrance instead of the one that was just recently reviewed. I barely have any high priced bottles on my dresser because of financial discipline on how pricey some of them are so i choose to find what works for me money wise as well as scent profile from the fragrance. You are most appreciated for what you do and still doing much love from Jersey!

You made so many good points, thank you for this video! I have the feeling there are people that get into this hobby, only to be able to be a snob. They don't really care about fragrances, they want to be a snob. And in this community it is easy to be a snob, just buy nieche and trash everything else. I will never deny that two of my most favorite fragrances in my whole collection are around 20 bucks, and I love them to death (Lalique Hommage A L'Homme and Rasasi Daarej).

I agree with your points Joy, I think all the fragrance shills that started releasing their “own fragrance” and following the KZbin algorithm to get clicks, subs, etc, ruined the game thus indeed a lot of fragcomm is trash, but you’re one of the bright spots that does it for passion, keep it up brother! 💪

That is also why content like Tiktok is addicting because it's quick and straight to the point. People just want things quickly now, they want the next best thing and the want it now. They just want to smell good and that's about it. I mean, that's how it is nowadays and I'm not blaming anybody. Basically different strokes for different folks, I guess? Those who want to dive deep into the discussion knows where to go to & those that want something quick can go to the new mainstream stuff. Find whatever works for you. It is what it is.

If I find a fragrance in a shop I will search for a fragrance review of it on KZbin. I want to find honest detailed reviews to give me an idea of what it smells like. All these top 10 fragrance video are running fragrance game. Top 10 clones, top 10 seasonal are cool but it's gone too far. Also seeing a lot of fragrance KZbin reviewers are now ruining fragrance distribution sites and working with fragrance houses. Everything you've said is spot on.

I started in 2016 and it was cool. I loved the community back then but at some point the family feeling is gone from the community. I don't want to blame Jeremy because I came into the game watching his reviews but he ruined this thing of ours for money and fame. That's why you see gent scents and a few other guys just dropping reviews after reviews and other nonsense like hyping fragrances. Even the trading community isn't what it was 2 years ago. It's not fun anymore. People like Joy, Troy D, robes08 and a few others are the what's keeping me interested. Thanks Joy for all that you do

Agree with everyone here… but also want to say, without hating on anyone specifically, that in every aspect of life that you come across, women will complain of being sexualised but they are the ones who exploit their sexuality to get ahead. To us men, I guess that feels like misleading, but we’re all here to learn. Like I say, this happens in every aspect of life, not just fragcomm. Look at what’s happening with Instagram. It is what it is 🤷🏼♂️

Completely agree, quite a degree of hollowness about the "lady-killer" types of reviews. I think those reviewers play and use people's wishful thinking just as much as old snake-oil sellers. Think about it. Whenever was any last time you suddenly felt attracted to someone because of how they smelled???? Has it ever happened to you actually? Well, there you go. If you don't find some people attractive (or if you effectively dislike them,) you won't suddenly switch and find them attractive just because of whatever fragrance they wear, or would you? And if you find someone attractive, it won't matter whatever fragrance they wear, you'd still be attracted. People need more frequent reality checks than they realize. It's people what attracts people. Not garments, or clothes, or fragrances.

The worse kinds are the ones that just hype a perfume that they were sent for free and the ones that’s just trying to boost sales of a particular fragrance so they could earn some recognition/credit from the brand… all they post are positive reviews… Jeremy, despite his whacky style, is still honest about perfumes he reviews..

I don't know, there are a couple of fragrances that Jeremy seems to push quite a lot and it makes me a little bit suspicious. There are a few in his comments with the same suspicions too. He also says that a few fragrances smell a certain way when they don't, for example he says Invictus Victory has the Invictus DNA when it smells nothing like it, and a similar thing with Sauvage Elixir. It's strange because I know he has a good nose and knows his stuff, but now and then it's like he's not putting the effort in and is just saying things 🤷🏻♂️
@callmevil3 жыл бұрын
@@StevenTwoTwo i know what you mean.. he does sometimes seems like he’s not taking it seriously and say a perfume is good, but he always adds a caveat either to say something negative about it but overall its good.. but its jeremy, always take him with a pinch of salt. Lol

If you type in Jeremy Fragrance top 50 you’ll see him doing a top 50 list of fragrances from less than a year ago. No Bleu De Chanel in the entire list. Bleu De Chanel also didn’t appear in his other lists around that time. Fast forward 3-4 months to around this summer and he’s pushing it non-stop, while regularly saying Chanel is the coolest brand. He’s also said in the past that brands paying influencers is a new direction rather than them spending on advertising campaigns.... Make of all that what you will. Seems a bit suspect to me. I like Jeremy’s videos but wish he’d make more effort like the old days, rather than just churning out ‘nothing’ content for ad revenue. His airport duty free ones are good fun at least.

It’s the cheapening of society. When social media didn’t reign supreme ppl cared less how much they appealed to others. Now it’s all about validation. Quality in many aspects of life is less important. It will change but it will take another 5-10 years. It will change tho.

Pre-Jeremy and post-Jeremy.. talk about 'watered down'.. Cody DracDoc is still my alltime fav bottom-line reviewer and that's what it was all about. The unneccessary extra comedy/entertainment/fashion life of Jeremy literally has nothing to do with our community - the fragrance community - it's just comedy and entertainment. It's just the top of the water but it has no depth in it like a shallow puddle. "Dull, selfcentered, shallow, boring" can never be words applied to a real review and frag appreciator, but they can be applied to every second of Jeremy's life on YT. That's what we're after/into after all. FRAGRANCE appreciation (community). kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKTThIOonraqiZo
