Historically, Tugu Selong Park used to be called "Alun-alun Tugu Pancasila Kotas Selong", so named because on each side of this park there were Pancasila reliefs on each side.

According to the story told by old people, Taman Tugu Selong was built by Dutch representatives in East Lombok who used to live in the current regent's pavilion building. The monument was used to mark the place where the placenta of the daughter of the head of the Dutch representative was buried. This is one of the historical stories that refers to this monument park.
