I emerged from the tunnel to be greeted by the 250 LM trickling past my feet ! Would love to have been there and of course met you good self but sadly life got in the way. Today I happened to be working at the Rolls Royce plant about half a mile away, I saw some great cars on the way in this morning, a yellow Dino was the one for me, I didn't see any racing... But I heard plenty!

As you blithely tripped along the line of ERA's I really thought you might have paused to tip your cap with respect upon reaching "Remus", (the blue car with yellow wheels) , Prince Bira's new mount in 1936.One of the most regularly/constantly raced competition cars in the world.

I did Goodwood in 2017. A great day except it rained but the Meguiar's guys gave me an umbrella. There was a Lockeed P-38, a Curtiss, P-40, a Bristol Blenheim that was used in the film "Dunkirk," some Spitfires, many more and there were old cars too.

I love this. Goodwood is such a wonderful example of classic cars and the culture that went with them. It is also wonderful that they try and keep things period correct with clothing, Spitfire flyovers etc. You are near some of my relatives and I wish I was there.

For those who don't know the Goodwood Revival or Goodwood Festival of Speed, the most important thing to know is that access to the paddock / cars / people /drivers like this is standard, every ticket, all the time. It's fantastic like that. With the FoS especially, if you want to see F1 teams, people and cars up close and personal, the FoS beats any F1 race. Part of it is because they're relaxing that weekend, not trying to win a race.

Some of the most famous and best drivers in motor sport history compete at Goodwood. Who says they aren't trying to win? It's just all the racing is completed under the spirit of gentlemanly competition, not to win at any cost.

@@philhawley1219 oh absolutely yes! They don't record an official time for the modern F1 cars up the hill climb (doesn't seem to stop them having go anyway). And I can remember Gwynfaf Evans setting a blistering time, back in the 1990s! But it certainly is "for the fun of it", which is lovely.

I was referring to the Revival. FoS is OK but the GR is something else. I had a ticket for this weekend but due to ill health could not go. However my brother just messaged me with pictures of my 10 year old nephew strapped into the cockpit of a genuine works D type Jag by one of the mechanics .I am sure that is a memory he will treasure for ever. That is the kind of thing that could only happen at Goodwood, I am just so sorry to have missed it. Best wishes, Phil.
