A quick tip is to spray PB Blaster or any other penetrating oil between your dually wheels once or twice a season. I have had very little fertilizer rust between mine.

Love these videos. Crop rotation - not enough hours in the day to discuss. When I was young I worked on Farms and can tell you first hand, everyone has an opinion. I work for a family, and they told it like it was - That land is my income - period.

Mike: Maybe put a bead of silicon caulk in the joint between the duals. Easy to do, easy to break loose if necessary, low cost and way better than allowing fertilizer to create rust pockets.

They usually contain acetic acid which causes corrosion too... Maybe some chassis sealant would be better 🤔 or butyl strips

I always thought crop rotation was turning your field 90° after seeding! Not sure how to do it though. Most farmers do it at night when no one can watch how it is done, and take the secret to their graves! LoL.

Mike, to avoid the fertilizer rust between your wheels, you could easily put in a line of silicone sealant. That easy to change (copared to rust damage) when the wheels are taken off.

Crop rotations.... we did alot of that for our gardens. We even planted vetch for a year and moved our garden. Mowed it down then plowed and disked it. We didnt have a 1000 acre field but that half acre was alot to hoe for 8 year old me. But as you said the person that takes care of the land does it differently. I guess I learned the old fashioned way. Three families gardened. Those gardens basically fed us for the year. We would rotate the different crops from house to house. At least for main crops like corn, beans and such. Then we would all help get everything in. I can attest that I miss it all. My grandfather taught me Take care of the land and the land takes of you. To do that on the scale Faith Hope Farms does is amazing. All I can say.....Keep taking care of the land Mike. It seems to this old man that your family does it very well. Hoping some rain comes this year.

I like how you do these checks over and over. It´s just how it is. Every stop. Every day. And you need to relearn this every year. Because it´s been a freaking year since the last time. With the plough (that we use), with the drill, with the seeder, with the combine, with the silos... It just goes on.Thanks for making this available and easily understandable, Mike! I think we need videos like yours. When it comes to battery operated tools (or boyfriends) - Milwaukee sets the pace. Nobody else comes close. I have Metabo. It sucks. Oh, and smear a stripe of grease between those duals on the cart.. Also, I like how you demonstrate the lack of tool compartments on your tractor. A grease gun should always be allowed, ready from the factory. Even a battery operated one these days. It´s in use every single day, it should fucking come with the tractor, at those prices....

The reason we go on angles is for trash management and we swath ahead in some canola (last year for that!). Also with dropping straw to bale with swaths on the ground we want them going with typical winds so we don’t have swaths blown all over

You made a very solid point that farmers make their living of the land and yet , even though I am a " mechanic " and not a agronomist , I hear about a lot of " farmers " abusing rental land by under feeding it . Not to have a point of discussion in case of trying to buy this land but just out of pure greed . The rules on soil sample control is pretty clear but the actual doing is far from adequate .

A couple of my options, 30 to 40 minute videos are great, love watching the channel! Would love to hear more on crop rotation. Finally, when it comes to power tools, keep in mind I'm a mechanic, it's best to stay with 1 brand if possible. I personally prefer milwaukee, 2 batteries sizes covers all the tools. I have owned mikita, dewalt, Mac and snap-on electric power tools, all have issues, but I love my milwaukees

When we used to work the fields before planting the field cultivator usually would work the fields on a little angle so the fields were smoother for the planter .. If you don't think tracks are good how about duel tires on the articulated tractors .. Every farmer has a certain way that works for him and the fields .. They do have an end for the grease gun that locks onto the nipple / zerk ...

Mike, buy lock n lube grease coupler to your gun. Its awesome, it seals perfectly and hold to nipple. Only downside is sometimes it's hard to get on tight places.

@@mikemitchell2554 thes a polystyrene(?) “rope” that I use as a “backer rod” to fill a larger gap then go over it with Solar Seal brand polyurethane caulk. Sticks to anything and is chemical resistant. Very flexible and is easy to remove. Thoughts from a house painter that wishes he could be a farmer.

Brand of power tool I think is initially down to the brand the supplier used most frequently stocks. Then as you have a particular brand of battery you stay with that brand and accumulate bare tools.

Mike is quite a politician. The real answer to Mike why do you use Milwaukee 18 volt tools is really"Because they are the best for our application". On our farm and trucking business we have used them all and Milwaukee followed closely by Makita is vastly superior in durability, battery life and torque. Acme tools is by far the best source to buy them.
