Yes, those aren't Roman ruins. Fes was always one of the imperial (capital) cities of Morocco. So when one dynasty conquered Fes they would build over the previous one. Volubilis, Tangier, and Larache is where you can see Roman ruins.

Diring summer, consider avoiding continental cities like Fez and Marrakesh. Stay rather near the Atlantic or Mediterranean coasts where day temperatures remain tolerable.

@@youssefbenjelloun4863 Thanks Si Youssef. Fully agree with you. Both my parents are from Fez and I grew up in Tetuouan, which is a great place to be in the summer. We plan to go to Casa for a wedding and then head north for the beach and make a few stops in Rabat and Tangier so my kids can experience those cities as well and not just the beach in Totuoan

Hi Patricia & Matt, thank you for the video, sorry for the local guide experience, this your first experience, it's preferable to verify the guide, he is not a guide but he is an owner is this case :( Fes is the heart of Morocco, more than 12 centuries of history, Moroccan jewishs they lived in different cities of Morocco, for example Essouira city is known by the number of synagogue, I guess more than 40 synagoges. Greetings and you are most welcome.

Yeah the main problem is that we paid for a Medina tour lmao. Also, the tour outside the Medina didn’t include the waterfalls, south castle, walking on the walls, Roman ruins etc. it included us driving for an hour and a half to his personal house and going to his friends stores to get sold 😂

@Patricia and Matt Your guide showed you honour and respect even though you guys might find it weird is due to in America and Europe there is none of this hospitality as it can end up in a crime being commited by the culprit thats why you may find it uncomfortable.

Fun fact: The "Fake" tour guide could have gone to jail for pretending to be a guide, thus, he was avoiding going to the old medina, because that's where most of the tourists go and so, police men are more serious about people like him .. I was born and raised in the old medina of Fes, I lived there my whole life yet, i once walked with 4 friends that came in a student exchange program towards the Clock cafe and i got stopped more than once, even my friends got fed up with it !! As for the airbnb thing, he thought he coupd sneak in a promotion for his business, and so is the case for the shops he took you to .. Those are usually his friends !!

@@houtianas1596 yes but when we booked the tour, we paid for a legal guide to take us into the Medina 😂. That’s the tour we wanted and paid for. And if you watch our channel, we are traveling for a year! And to make that happen, we travel on the extreme budget side of things. That means we try never to spend more than 500-600 MAD, and absolutely never spend more than 800 MAD in a day, so just the lunch was half of our entire daily budget!
