Let's Walk!

Let's Walk!

Күн бұрын

Join me for a walk around the historic town centre of Morpeth, one of the most significant towns in Northumberland, and located just over 15 miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne. Established in the Norman era, Morpeth grew up as a major market town for the region, and is home to a number of historic medieval buildings.
On our walk around Morpeth, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including the River Wansbeck, the Church of St. James the Great, Morpeth Market Square, Morpeth Town Hall, Morpeth Clock Tower, Sanderson Arcade, St. George's Church, Morpeth Chantry, Chantry Footbridge, Telford Bridge, Morpeth Court, Carlisle Park and Morpeth Castle.
Thank you so much to the following sites for helping me out in my research of Morpeth:

I live in Morpeth; that fountain used to be slap-bang in the centre of the crossroads and 'bang' is an accurate word for it; it was a big cause of car crashes until it was moved several years ago! I've been enjoying these walks, seeing my beloved Northumberland through the eyes of a stranger who appreciates everything we have up here. Thank you :) ETA: the market is held in the market square again, but has moved about a bit.

Interesting to learn! I can imagine with the fairly narrow roads in Morpeth (especially around the Clock Tower) that it would be a challenge to navigate around the fountain! Good thing they moved it - although it's almost as if Morpeth had its own Arc de Triomphe with that in the centre of the crossroads :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos, Northumberland really is a spectacular county, and one of England's true hidden gems!

The Hollon Fountain was not a cross-roads. The A1 (both north and south bound lanes) ran to the north of it. It was necessary to turn off the A1 if travelling in either direction to go into the dead end of the New Market, where the bus station used to be, or to go past the Clock Tower and into Oldgate. Coming out of New Market or Oldgate involved a stop to get onto the A1, either to go North or South, at a point to the West of the Hollon Fountain. The road markings were extremely clear and any accidents must have been since the 1980s. I cannot recall any before then, but it is possible there was the odd one of which I am not aware.

It absolutely is! It may be the most sparsely populated county in England but even so it might be the most densely packed with gorgeous towns and scenery :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!

Wow! Sounds like an impressive place to stay - and right on the doorstep of some of Morpeth's greatest history - which as I'm sure you know is all around the town, a great place even if it's raining a little :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!

In the 90s some rich relatives from down south came to celebrate my granny's 80th birthday and they rented the gatehouse for the week-end. We had a couple of great parties in there!

Thank you, and well done. If only, the days were made of 48 hours, I could show you the north of France ... in short. Thanks to your steps, I continue to discover, and to learn the history of your country. A last thank you for the moment filmed in slow motion of the churches. Professional fault! See you soon

I'm a Chadian origin girl from Saudi Arabia, and I've been living in Ashington for the last two & a half years. And I'm now considering to move to a nicer place in Northumberland. I'm kinda hesitant whether to move to Morpeth or Hexham. I watched your tours of both and I loved them... thanks for these amazing & informative vids. Please let me know if there's even nicer towns in this nice county!
