I LOVED the whole end game plan, crafting, industry and reputation... it showed us that Star Citizen will cater for long term playability, sustained interest and progression and overall longevity. This is what I was hoping for. Yes, it is, as always only a plan, but it was a plan that the community desperately needed. These were very positive points from CitCon and I'm happy to wait, if it's all worth it. We've waited long enough, what's a few more years, lol. Good stuff😆

@@Maddock_ There's lots of thing they could have sat down and thought about 5yrs ago, tbh. And it's not too late, SC is uniquely a slow burn project that is subject to feature creep... but in many way it's also a cool aspect of the development. This is NOT a normal game and project, this is what attracts many of us to it. CIG is far from perfect, but they're daring to be bold and despite a bumpy, long road, they're delivering the vast majority of what they've set out to do. When the alpha PU doesn't work, it's HORRIBLE, lol, but when it works, there is NOTHING else out there like it. This is why I'm drawn to it. It's different and unique and ambitious and that's what I've been missing from gaming for so long. I'm in it for the long haul, I have no need for them to rush this. I have other games and interests to tie me over for the mean time, I'm happy to wait - I believe it will be worth it.

@@Maddock_ They had thought about it 5 years ago, they were just so wrapped up trying to get SQ42 feature complete they didn't have time to go through it all, now that's in polishing phase all the SQ42 devs will have been moved over to the PU so they aren't twiddling their thumbs which is why we've had a sudden bump in progress, either way the PU is still a long way off being ready which is probably why Roberts said he's gonna drop SQ42 in 2026, that gives him 24 months to get the PU into what he's hoping is a good enough state to be able to be playable for people who have just finished the single player campaign to bring in more development funding.

@laurentguyot3362 That's a very very hard line to walk, and I think that's why they're going for a split game, having the MMO and single player be two separate entities.
@thetechguychannel2 сағат бұрын
@@oFFtheWall518 I think it's quite possible to make some systems "gardens" for solo play. If you just want to hop into a prospector and do some mining and then some space trucking, it's entirely possible to do this within at least 1-2 out of all the systems that are planned. Though whenever you say this, the no-lifers pile on you because you dare to want to also have something to do while having IRL responsibilities. I'm cool with doing a few things here and there on my own, and then also doing things with my org. Why can't we do both? I mean, it's entirely possible. A lot of us since the game was announced started families, we have kids, and we've got very high-stress jobs. Some of us even work on technologies that CIG makes use of :))
@MyN0N4M32 сағат бұрын
@@oFFtheWall518 I think it's no longer split though. They even will now have a main story campaign, that will essentially be your solo story content from your standard MMO. And that will be the "basic nervous system that connects all parts of the game". Also, you have instanced content and stuff like raids and dungeons. So basically they turned SC form a full sandbox game into a sandbox + themepark experience (which is great imo). That will also help solo players a lot. And ultimately the game WILL require NPC crew and AI blades to work, period. There is no way around that. Even a 50k player org will not be able to have players to mindlessly man turrets and patrol hallways in their space station just in case the random weekly attack happens. People would be bored out of their minds. This will never be a thing and you want 100% NPCs for that. And NPC crew/companions will be what makes solo players truly be able to experience all SC content. As it always was the plan (there are hours and ahours of them talking about how you will be able to use NPC crew to solo everyhitng up to a cap ship).

The thing about base building arriving, at least as I understand it, is as follows: They said that base-building will launch in-game before the Pioneer is flyable. However the Pioneer is on the 'next 12 months' teaser from the ship panel. CIG has demonstrated that they can say whatever they want if it's in a convention presentation format and they will refill hopium tanks for the year, enough to keep people buying ships until the next Citcon. Do we even have the big things they showed last year, Pyro and server meshing, yet? Aside from ships and one animal, how much do we actually have from last year? Master modes? The new inventory UI? How did those turn out? What about Squadron, which was in polishing last year but is now releasing in 2026, meaning it's taking a full three years to polish? What about the big features from previous years that have failed to materialize or are still half-finished, buggy or broken? They are not delivering. Nothing matters until you're playing it, and even then, CIG has shown that they're unable to polish a feature without numerous iterations and revisions post-release. Citcon is a presentation which sells you on features to be delivered (or not) years later while they build the features they announced years ago. If that isn't a ponzi scheme, it's certainly ponzi scheme adjacent.

Then he talks about how the gameplay for squadrons 42 was "real" because it crashed even though they had "real" gameplay for when they jumped into Pyro about five years ago. Also not to be picky, but most of the game play for squadrons was filled with cut scenes. Then he mentions the sand worms. I don't think I need to abbreviate more upon that. I am not trying to say anyone shouldn't get excited. But the same thing happens over and over again with star citizen. People aren't happy a citizen con comes out. People get excited, then buy a lot of star citizens stuff. Then they get unhappy throughout the year, and then a citizen con happens again, and the process continues to repeat.

Base building and crafting is exactly what I was hoping for, and honestly is totally in line with what they had been saying all along, just now the details are there. But pretty much exactly as expected and that made me happy. Actually the biggest surprise for me was the ability to build shops in bases, which is honestly making me question my purchase of the BMM and Kraken Privateer as the main reason I got those was to allow me to set up shops to sell my crafted goods, and that is really no longer necessary. I am slight depressed, though honestly not surprised, that space stations will be Org only, but damned if I'm not going to try to build one by myself anyway. Early stuff but spruced up to advertise to the wider MMO crowd. I look forward to seeing how Genesis (Starchitect) will help to populate POIs with local lore/narrative and economy/missions. I know it's too much to ask that every NPC I meet is unique and has a persistent evolving life over years (until they inevitably die in the crossfire during a local org battle, o7, I'll miss you Bob), but something in that direction, just enough that I can suspend my disbelief and each POI cluster has a slightly unique character would be nice.

Especially in the context of them saying that 1.0 means having all of this stuff relatively polished and accessible to new players. It's absolutely insane to me when they talk like if they have just started thinking about designing what this game is going to be. At this stage, I don't want to hear them announce a single brand new feature that they plan and hope to add before 1.0. I only want to hear about the progress on the 1000 things that they already announced in the past but still haven't been completed.

But seeing Squadron 42 is releasing in 2026, I would bet they are target that for 1.0. It would be good for them to have both games ready at once, so you finish SQ42 and gain your citizenship to already start Star Citizen. One market push elevating both games. Depending on how far in development the other systems are on the background I say it's possible if server mashing don't keep delaying everything. I would bet they could even squeeze 42 in 2025, but they gave themselves on more year both to breath and avoid delays and for give time to 1.0 have a chance of releasing together. Pyro and Server meshing will be out this year and people are already upset about stuff announced for next year and beyond. What i noticed at Citizencon is that there were a lot of people there that get it. And its now easier than ever to see in the comments those that just post for the like and attention.

After 12 years since pre-production to hear Roberts talk about 1.0 that is still several years away seems like the same thing we have been told. This citcon felt very marketing driven and with almost 1 billion dollars they should have a finished product within sight. Much of what he talked about could be added down the road, it feels like they are running out of ideas on how to keep their business model going. Queue the memes.

Everything sounds good and looks good. My biggest worry are the servers. The servers are barely working, if at all, currently. So they definitely won’t work when features like these drop and when, hopefully, eventually, Star Citizen comes out, because of the large influx of players.

My guilty pleasure is dipping in to see what flashy new things Citizen con has to offer and every time i am filled with hope of what it could be. But in doing so i am reminded that everything i'm seeing is like 5 years away. i mean Pyro was announced in 2018? 2019? and still we do not have it. The new planet tech is very pretty but... when will we see it? I think the 1 thing SC could really use is tangible changes we can get our hands on in shorter intervals. Announce something and in 6 months we are playing it, or at least before the next Citizen con. As it is i don't expect my character to sit and watch a sunset while a storm rolls in and giant sky whales fly over head until 2030. And yet i still have hope things will pick up soon. Love your videos and pleasant voice.

Pyro and jump points were supposed to be in game in 2018... The "roadmap" to system jumping was announced in 2016 to be delivered in 2018. Yes they are 6 years behind on just getting Pyro into PU which was being built using planet tech v2. The new planet tech is definitely beautiful, but planet jesus tech was also talked about back in 2018 for planet tech v3. Then again in 2020 we got planet tech v4. I think in 2023 we got planet tech v5 which is what was used to create these new beautiful planets for citcon. Each time they show a new planet tech, it is going to speed things up. We are still waiting on our second system to come to game. The dynamic weather they showed looks amazing. I hope to one day be able to enjoy it.

Well, so far the best StarCitizen experience is getting hyped for yet another list of features that will never be implemented, or implemented poorly, or implemented but not working then pushed back. SQ42 preview was good at least. I don't believe shit they have to say regarding SC tho.
@JohnVanderbeckСағат бұрын
I loved the weather demo, but I'm a little worried about them presenting us with IFR conditions with the current suite of instrumentation we have in ships. IFR conditions without the proper tools to fly in it is suicide.

This Citizencon has the features and content we all dream of but making it into reality is what scares me Especially how long will it take I'm hopeful they can do it but I know right now Especially right now as the ptu is a mess during Citizencon isn't giving me the best of hope of them making these goals I do hope they complete these grand goals it would make an amazing experience with friends and solo. Atleast now I have a ship to grind for next year the Perseus

Realistically. If its gonna take them 3 years to get sq42 out the door. Then it will probably take another 5 years for 1.0 to be released. But id aay im confident we will have some form of base building if not all of it excluding space station building in 2 years.

Squadron 42 is a prequel to start citizen, right? Maybe server crashes are feature, not a fault. Maybe that's where it all started. Maybe it was just 1 or 2 crashes. Maybe server crashes are the final boss in star citizen.
@NutralaArloas3 сағат бұрын
CIG really going to the EVE routes, and that is fantastic to see players working together to build an Empire of Orgs, but what really scared me is that how the future players play Star Citizen, is it like EVE subscription payment or game packages like we have today, I hope CIG take the game packages payment than subscription payment
@hawkzulu56712 сағат бұрын
EvE charges its Omega players monthly and a Huge amount of those players have more than one account - so pay More than 1 subscription per month.. even with that there has Never been a year in EvE's history where they earn what Star Citizen earns every year. SC doesnt need subscriptions. A couple times per year CIG puts a few of the big ships for sale ..the Javelin, Bengal.. etc and every time they sell out within seconds - ships that cost thousands. Not only will ships be buyable with in game currency - they will also be Buildable SC breaks its funding records every year and not 1 penny of Squadron 42 money is part of that equation. They will set new 2024 / 2025 records, of course but what happens in 2026 if and when Squadron 42 sales now get added to the coffers? We may already be at the point by then where the 1,200 employees grows to 1,500 just at the Manchester HQ alone by the time Squadron 42 goes on sale. Most of the CIG staff was assigned to Squadron 42 and that pulled manpower off of Star Citizen...thats why in 2020 when CIG was still at 500 employees they were working toward the expansion of today.. the next chapters of Squadron 42 wont require pulling people off of Star Citizen - there will be enough staff to handle BOTH projects at the same time and not 1 penny of Subscription $. Starter packs will still be $45 bucks

I am as much a supporter as anyone, of the project, the concepts; all of it. But.. Any other investor can reasonably demand timelines. I dont care how many deadlines they have missed. The lack of time frames given for anything other than ship silhouettes, and a 12-month window for squadron (thats 3 years after being feature complete) is disappointing
@artuno12073 сағат бұрын
Sure, but imagine what kind of game SC would've been if they had an investor that demanded release 5 years ago. It wouldn't even be what we have now in the live build, but a shallow imitation of what we want.
@Cblan12243 сағат бұрын
@artuno1207 good point. That's how you end up with a starfield
@ArchReverend2 сағат бұрын
@@artuno1207 True, but the common game development model is to release a game and then keep adding to it making it better and better. Granted a lot of studios release their games waaaaay too soon and suffer for it but the good companies keep working on it and keep developing it. Even if SC were to release in the next 2 years, i'm confident they would keep working on it for the next 20 years. But Cblan1224 has a point, any other business would be in deep trouble with their investors if their product release window was vague at best. I think the best thing CIG can do is ramp up their development and start showing an increase in pace where we get more progress we can play in shorter intervals now that all the heavy coding seems to be fairly finished, now is the time where we should see the leisurely stroll of game development become a sweaty jog and then sprint.

I agree that the EVE direction is the right one for longevity. I'm not so sure about the crafting and its impact on the economy. Likewise, crafting all ships, really? Especially with the showcased 3D printer-esque implementation, I feel like that cheapens the lore and product. Why do guilds have the authority to hand out, say, a Crusader blueprint to individual citizens? Just hoping orgs are responsible for distribution to open markets. Rather than an associated premium, it would be more sensible to sell at a discount when you make the trip to the org facility. Would also be hilarious to have customer reviews openly accessible and give orgs another reputation to maintain.
@adamchambers139340 минут бұрын
Something to consider with dates. SQ42 set for 2026 so two years. They must be aiming for around that for 1.0 cause otherwise why isn't there Vega and Odin coming with 1.0 to make it 7 systems?
@reamoinmcdonachadh951943 минут бұрын
I think you owe us your thoughts on what you think that catch might be. SC 1.0 will be a creeper, in that it will iterated upon, and (to some extent) be pre installed across several patches long before it's publicly "announced" as Open to the Public!

It is, they didn't talk about AI blades, much about Tony Z's vision of the dynamic economy or really get into Death of a Spaceman either, but they are all still there. Can't cover everything in one go, I suppose :)

I suppose you're right. Now I hope hearing about this in a next ISC 😅.
@hawkzulu56712 сағат бұрын
The last thing they said on it is that none of the NPC crewmates / AI blades or any of that is coming - before we have all the engineering and all those changes fully implemented. Thats why this period is going to be long and fruitless if you are a solo player - and wish to fly multi crew ships with the same proficiency as another ship of the same kind that has a human crew on board. There is no relief coming any time soon
@MrSpleenboy3 сағат бұрын
A lot of this does look great, but I'm really tempering my expectations at the moment (although I'm probably going to start to get back into the game soon). I've always maintained that SQ42 would come out first, to fund the final push for SC PU. So if SQ42 isn't coming out until 2026, then I wouldn't expect a release of PU 1.0 until around 2028. On the bright side, hopefully I'll be able to afford a full 2 stick Virpil setup by then! 😀
@Airtroops832 сағат бұрын
yeah I think SQ42 will launch before SC. SC needs the extra time to fully flesh out the game systems SQ42 doesnt have, as well as completing the ship backlog. I bet SQ42 will come out late next year, hopefully dodging the GTA6 release. If it does get delayed, I think itll be purely because of GTA6

I desperately need those org tools for Midnight Operations to get off the ground. Looking at the history of EvE we may be able to make a few predictions. Obviously, the org, that makes the most money gets those shields. But how we detect things like that in deep space? I'm very curious.
@BigSmugRat46 минут бұрын
It's a ways off, but I do wonder if alliances will be able to build a station together? Will they have to funnel the resources to one of the orgs and have them build it, or could it be a communal project for an alliance of smaller/mid sized orgs.

Best moment was when chris robber said "not a 100% promice but", and the crowd laughed, and when the sponsor computer crashed twice and chris blamed the computer. Clearly he doesnt play his own games. No one loves star citizen right now, because its unplayable, people love what they think it should be, and CIG keeps saying yes, now buy ships and we will show you an idea of a game on screen (with no game)

Is it weird that I want the Nova tank to be shortened significantly, the giant ass hallway removed, and the crew just sliding in from exterior hatches. The ridiculous design bugs me more than it should. Now, the Storm is fucking perfect. Its weird, kinda ugly in an awesome way, and generally fun to drive and use.
