Me driving up I-75 Central expressway in Dallas, TX in the mid 80's in my SAAB 900 Turbo. I had Andew McCarthy hair, RayBan Wayfarers and the attitude to match. Why did I ever move on from that? I'd still be hip today.

Another dope Prince production. His Purple Badness was insanely funky, talented, prolific and gifted!
@bdfhip-hop28948 жыл бұрын
Actually Morris Day Produced This... He wasn't working with Prince at this time of his career.
@clubbinmag36 жыл бұрын
Although they’re cousins, They had two similar but different styles.. Morris liked to double up on the bass, while the Purple one had more of a Slapping to the bass.. to me.... sonically/lyrically .. Prince was more of a lover.. Morris was more of a mother fucker! Both had their times & places.

God, the 1980's, seems like a lifetime ago, it was like a totally different atmosphere to the one today, I would have been only around 21, full of energy and enthusiasm when this was in the charts, remember it well, there just seemed to be a more clear direction and a real buzz back then that's just somehow not the same now.

I can only name one other group that had multiple original members have very successful solo projects. That would be Slave. Whether having multiple hit songs, producing hits, or both. Slave core members were teenagers when they signed their contracts. Prince owned The Time, so he pretty much owned their success. The Time didn't own their freedom until they went solo. A record label owned Slave. So many great hits from each after leaving their prospective bands. But no Time member was better than The Time, or no Slave member was better than Slave. Slave was the victim of a shady & corrupt industry. The Time was just too damn good. But most importantly, The Time was Prince, & Prince was The Time. Notice how much more funky Prince music became when there was no more Time. Prince was a genius, & Morris Day & Time was just too damn good. I have no doubt The Time didn't like it. But I truly believe they understood. Or at least understand now. That's just my opinion.
