I had one of these in the 80's. Really reliable and served me well when I lived in Nottingham. I relocated to Preston and sadly exchanged it for a stunning maroon, immaculate MGB GT. No regrets.

People found it fashionable to slag off the Marina and poke fun at it, but in reality it was no worse than other similar cars of the time.

Lovely car, practical as an everyday car although I would garage it for the winter.

These cars were far better than popular folk law would suggest. They were as good as the competition at the time. For example my dad bought a 4 year old Cortina in 1980 and it was literally falling to bits !!

Il faut sauvegarder toutes les MORRIS qui sont encore en circulation. Les MORRIS sont très robustes et bien finies. J'ai roulé avec une MORRIS MARINA en Irlande, mais je n'en trouve plus en France ...

I had a 1.7. It was indeed nippy but the handling was still pretty awful.

my Dad had a 1977 1.3 saloon. It had the automatic lane changing feature..... so in strong winds it would physically swap lanes with out with the drivers knowledge. Dad bought it from new. At 18 months i was rusting so badly he requested/demanded a complete respray. I promotion meant the marina could go at 3 years, A maxi followed , which gave 10 x the problems

@@davidmg1925 Funny I had a 1978 Marina 1.8 HL/TC that was 8 years old when I bought and was an ex-company car that had done over 70,000 miles and was in excellent condition with NO rust and I never had a problem with that car trying to change lanes in strong winds. I smell the usual bullshit from people who listen to the drivel from Top Gear etc and then respout it as "knowledge" mostly just because they do not like these cars themselves and who never actually owned one or did but were the usual lazy or miserly owners who NEVER serviced or looked after their cars and then blamed the car or manufacturer for when problems or breakdowns then occurred - this is most people who spout their DRIVEL. My Marina was a very reliable and excellent car and never had a problem with its handling and I drove that car hard and fast back then. Yes you had to watch the back end in the wet but there were plenty of other cars in the same boat such as the Capri and Cortina etc. I wouldnt like to be in any car with a driver whose car swapped lanes without their knowledge but like I said I smell BS.

Mr.@@williamwoods8022 I feel a little sorry that you seem to have completely misunderstood the post I wrote. My Father is a retired accountant and could well afford the necessary maintenance. The car both cars were serviced and maintained by a man who did jobs punctually....... accountancy is a bit like that......... a very literal profession. Another point I would make is that as a family we are actually very patrioitic . There is nothing I would like better than to say that everything went fine. I'm sorry, it just didnt. Another factor you might like to consider is that my father when trying to work out how to deal with the maxi was relaying the matter to his then boss. This gentleman said "if you buy another BL car I will doubt your judgment". As an aside, another factor you might like to consider is that I haven't used any swear words , expletives at all. With young people potentially looking into an open forum I consider such rhetoric as being uncouth and impolite. Lastly I'm only too happy (trust me) that you had good service from your marina.
