Wonderful cars, I remember when I was a kid in Portugal there was lots of minors I like the sound of winding transmission. Thank you very much for sharing.

I saw someone wondering about engine history.The split screen having had a Morris 8 series E side valve but that the pushrod 'A series being of Austin origin.Anyone know if that's true? I know that A and B series engines were common to all BMC's of several different makes.

Yes, as far as I know, the A-series first appeared in the Austin A30 and was fitted to the Minor to provide a more (at the time) modern engine. I have been fortunate enough to have owned both a 1957 948cc and a 1962 1098cc Minor - both A-series, of course. The 1098 engine was a considerable improvement over its forebears, in both smoothness and driveability. It also came with a better gearbox. Sir Alec, of course, wanted an entirely new engine for the Mosquito (Minor) and proposed a flat four - hence the lovely, wide engine bay, I believe. I agree with the remark, above, about the lack of any pick-ups. Can it be snobbery, though? Is the Minor van somehow considered socially above the pick-up? Surely not! Also, if a Farina Oxford can be allowed to drive around with the Minors (not to mention the Nissan truck), then why not a Farina A40 and a Frog-eye Sprite - true family of the Minor and both excellent cars. Didnt see one pick-up,certainly not a poor cousin,and shows a certain snobbery in some clubs
