Not a good idea to take the centre nut right off when removing the steering wheel. If it's tight and you start jerking and pulling it, it's likely to eventually come off all of a sudden and smack you in the face. Leave the nut on a few threads to stop this happening. Also for reference, if you need to just remove the drivers side glovebox only, it is possible to do it without removing the steering wheel. Its a bit of a fiddle but it can be done, I removed and replaced mine several times. Incidentally, I refurbished my glovebox inners with some self adhesive material similar to "Fablon". Tricky but it saves a lot of money as new glovebox inners are expensive. The inners are made of a cardboard-like material and are susceptible to water damage if you ever have a leak through the windscreen or wiper stalk rubbers/gaskets. I coated my glovebox inners with a mix of PVA glue and water brushed onto the outside to seal them against any future water damage.

Good point about the nut and the wheel smacking you if you are not careful.
