I’m surprised how much I’ve enjoyed this album for the most part

It's a great album by anyone's standards.

Great review. It really is one of his best, especially in recent times.

Hi Ross, I bought this album really out of loyalty to Mozza as I've followed his career since the release of This Charming Man. His last few albums have been very weak so I wasn't expecting much but I was really surprised. He has updated his sound and the songs are really memorable. Jim Jim Falls is an excellent opener while Darling, I Hug A Pillow is great opening Side 2. It's good to hear a lead female (Thelma Houston of Don't Leave Me This Way fame) vocal on Darling, Don't You Think They Know? as it really brings the track to life. I would give this a album a 4 star rating while his last few would only get 2 stars. The album cover is crap though. It looks like one of those official bootleg covers. All the best and stay safe through this horrid time. (now to watch your review of Paul & Jacqui's latest album).

Hi Richard, yep I buy everything out of loyalty (but of course haven't been there from the start) and this did definitely surprise me, unfortunately the cover doesn't do it any favours.

What's wrong with you? The Secret of Music is boring?! And it's weird to hear Morrissey criticized for being self pitying. That's like criticizing a dog for barking. His career is built on self pity.

The secret of music is boring I think - my least favorite on the album 🤐

Dominic AaAaa I disagree and at last his words mean something... “I am out of tune...” and the guitar picks up in the middle. It’s better than mostly everything since Ringleaders. Do you know than fans living in the Vauxhall and I days voted “Lifeguard Sleeping” as their favorite track and that one is slow. The Secret of Music is a hell of a lot better that the Bullfighter Dies rubbish... the worst song on the album is the title track... poor Morrissey... he is not a dog on a chain...

@@dominicaaaaa5547 Your right Dominic this is the only one I skip,its as dull as dishwater..the rest of the album is pretty awesome💯

@@kenpudsey6435 I agree it's good to try something different but just don't think this song works. Maybe if it was 2 minutes long and not 7..

Great review, I pretty much agree with everything you said! Definitely has some of his best work in a long time, though it does trail off quite badly. As you mentioned DMA's, have you heard their new song Life Is A Game Of Changing? It's very New Order esque and sees them expanding their horizons a bit.

Hey, I have not heard their new song but just playing now as I type. Pretty good change of direction for them.

The Secret of Music is my clear favorite on the album! Wow. I think it’s a million times better and classic Morrissey than that Bobby song.. also, “Jim Jim Falls” is about someone who stands at the top of the falls (which is a real place in Australia), and each day, they stand there threatening to jump and then they climb down and go home... and he’s saying “If you’re going to do it, then do it”... the album is his best since 2004 and I think it buries his last three studio albums...

Hi Ross great review again. I've just ordered it from his store hope to get soon. Will let you know what I think. Didn't get his last one covers album. Picked it up put didn't buy it. Kind regards joe

How does Morrissey know?

Out of interest, how many times did you listen to it before you reviewed it? I think you'll grow to like what you thought were the weaker tracks were, the more you listen.
@RossGoodallMusic4 жыл бұрын
hey, listened to it a good 5 or so times, it's possible tracks like Secrets of Music and Truth About Ruth might grow but right now I think they are poor songs on an otherwise great album
