Use this video as a key resource to learn and practice the Morse Code.
This video provides a key Morse code practice tool. The letters of the alphabet appear on the screen alongside the Morse code sounds for each letter of the alphabet, enabling anyone to associate the sound of the Morse code character with the letter very easily. Each letter of the alphabet is repeated three times to reinforce the sound of the Morse code with the letter.
The aim of the Morse code practice video is to help the viewer to associate the sound and rhythm of the Morse character with the actual letter. Once the Morse sound for a letter becomes associated with the written letter, it is possible to increase the speed at which Morse code communications can be read.
Morse code is still used in some areas of radio communications including amateur radio or ham radio where it provides an effective form of communication. It can enable two way radio communications contacts to be maintained when many other forms of transmission might not.
Although many high power ham radio stations still use Morse code, it particularly comes into its own for amateur radio stations using home built low power radio communications equipment. The equipment for Morse code is very much simpler than that required for other modes and this means that many stations build their own.
So even though it may be thought of as an old form of radio communications, Morse code is still well worth learning and it can bring hours of pleasure.
There are several other videos on this series. Starting with the first video, each one takes a step forwards helping viewers along the road to learning and using the Morse Code:
(1) Practice receiving Morse code letters: • Morse Code Alphabet Re... (this video)
(2) Practice receiving Morse code numbers: • Morse Code Numbers Rec...

I had to learn Morse to 10 words per minute back in the 80's for my Pilot's licence. The test was to identify three letter groups as this is how radio navigation beacons were identifiable. I wrote a small progam in basic for my MZ80 that generated random 3 letter groups in Morse. It was surprisingly easy when you listen for the "sound" of the letter rather than think of dots and dashes. This brought back memories. My daughter is five and I am teaching it to her.

Yes, learning Morse is all about listening for the overall sound of each letter. Constant practice is really the only way and programmes like the one you wrote for your computer are an excellent help.

I started just three days ago. I have a tip for people trying to learn: Don't try to learn the whole alphabet in 1 day. Learn the shorter letters at first and try to make many words with those letters. Record them and see if you can recognize them. When you feel reasonable comfortable, add 2 to 4 letters. Good letters to start: . - .- -. .. -- ... ---
@ElectronicsNotes
@ElectronicsNotes 2 жыл бұрын
Good idea. It is not really possible to remember them all in one day. I seem to remember I had a tape (yes it was many years ago) and I listened to a section of it repeatedly each day. In this way I fixed a few letters firmly in my mind, and then I moved on to the next set. You could do this with the video.

If he did not show the letters and code and you do not know morse code, how would you learn it?. Showing the letters and code helps you learn it. I have been a Ham for nearly 40 years and have only used CW. I can copy code 50 wpm. I learned code similar to this way of teaching. Only difference is, I learned a combination of 5 letters and numbers a day until they were all covered. Then it was random numbers and letters.

okay new here, why do i find myself liking the tones? even the single alphabet code seems to be speaking what letter it is. as if it's saying "An A" for A, "I bop bop bop" for B "I am a C" for C each one either is I am, I am a or just an _ and what it is. cept for E and T they dont use I am, I am a nor an_ they just are. i forgot "Am an" S P says "I am a pip" meaning P
@robertdim1271
@robertdim1271 2 жыл бұрын
I think it would be easier if we did, a dot for A, two dots for B, three dots for C, four dots for D. And then, use a dash three dots for E, two dash and two dots for F… and so on…. That would be easier.
@ElectronicsNotes
@ElectronicsNotes 2 жыл бұрын
The code was worked out in terms of the frequency with which letters occurred in the alphabet. "E" is the most common and therefore it was given the shortest code, that of a single dot. Other letters were assigned different codes according to their frequency and ease of sending, etc. Even though it was done over a hundred years ago, there was science that went into it. Sadly it does take a little more learning, but once you get used to it and have learned the different codes, the letters as they are give a much easier way of sending than other schemes. I hope that explains the reasoning behind the allocation of the different codes.

I understand your reticence about the video, but it has been very popular. The aim was to start to reinforce the sound and the letter. As many people use the markings for the letters, i.e. dots & dashes at the very beginning we included them as well. Later videos in the series just have the letters so we have tried to develop listening to the rhythm from there.

That´s exactly the way we start learning, 3 times the same letter, than the letters are sent mixt, after de A could come H or another one but still 3 times, than 2 times, and than 1 time, than begun the words, very nice, I learned it long time ago, when in Portugues schol Navy Comunications.
@ElectronicsNotes
@ElectronicsNotes 2 жыл бұрын
We have other later videos in the series that start to mix the letters up and then send them without any visual indication on screen (the answers are given in the description for checking after all the letters or numbers have been sent). In this way we hope it gives anyone wanting to learn Morse code a progression through the learning process.
