Great, I am already middle-aged and in my youth Morse code was still common. I also had Mecano and that is the opening to a training for mechanical engineer. Too bad that the youth nowadays do it with telephones. It is very educational toy. Greetings from Holland

I tried making much the same as this with my Meccano kit when I was a small boy. It never worked and I never knew why.

I'm not surprised that building was difficult as a child. This mechanism required a lot of adjustments. Also, synchronizing the motor speed with the morse typing speed was challenging to prevent excessive wear on the paper strip.
