That scene on Manistee Lake reminds me of fishing the upper Tillamook Bay area in the 60s. Four different rivers dumped into that area so a lot of Chum, Silver and Chinook salmon congregated there before moving into their respective rivers. Quite a few chinooks in the 70 lb range were caught there and I remember measuring dead salmon on the Wilson River during the early steelhead season that would have been in the upper 70 lb range. We had caught a few silvers off the pier at the mouth of the St. Joe river before we moved. We divided our time fishing for perch and salmon.

I grew up in Sault Ste Marie Ontario watching TV 9&10 out of Soo Michigan, Couldn't wait for Michigan Out of Doors every week with Mort Neff. TV at its finest, got me hooked on the out doors to fish and hunt. Mr Neff was bigger than life when i was a kid and bigger than any hollywood star to me! Thank you Mort

I grew up in Michigan 1954-80. I moved to Texas in 1980. My dad and I hunted around Houghton Lake (Headquarter Oil Field). We were interviewed by Jerry Jepetta in 1966 while bow hunting. I believed he wrote a column in the Detroit Free Press at the time! Really enjoyed viewing this video....many fond memories of hunting and fishing in Michigan. Also remember a show called "George Perro ? Presents"....travel show.
