Honestly the justice this game did for characters like baraka, li mei, Mileena ashrah and reptile can’t be understated. They took jobbers and forgotten characters and expanded upon them in well written ways. The fact that Onaga was trapped this entire time means that Shujinko having his powers was not done by Onaga, but by Liu Kang when he crafted the timeline. I think that goes to show he saw the potential Shujinko had to use his powers to become Earthrealms' greatest projector if his ego was tempered and channeled in the right direction. He only turned out as bad as he did before because he spent a lifetime having his ego fed by Damashi.

Kronika is confirmed dead and erased from existence in the story mode which spoilers. It was the original Shang Tsung disguised as her which it turns out from the last game being MK 11 when it did the Aftermath DLC where you can choose either Liu Kang wins over the hour glass or Shang Tsung. Which it's explained those endings mattered since it gave birth to different timelines and having multiple people have control of the hour glass. Also all these ending are confirmed to be canon since after Liu Kang stopped his Shang Tsung from his previous timeline and stopped another Armageddon destroying the multiverse of mortal Kombat that everything is set to order.

I really like these endings, they canonically explore each character's aftermath following the main story, surely they couldn't cover every character's personal path in story mode, but this is a really smart and interesting way to give each of them the attention they deserve. The classic tower mode is pretty much a simplified final arc of the story mode where you get to choose one character that will eventually (as you play as this character) aid Liu Kang to defeat the final boss. Not by the keepers of time he summoned nor by Shang tsung and his. So Lui kang's tower ending is non-canon., likewise with the others, honestly as we didnt see them play out in the story mode word for word and action for action. Easy.

But the story didn't mention to what extend. Liu Kang's arcade ending, like many others', simply expand on those topics that are mentioned but never shown in the story mode (Liu Kang mentioning about Kuai Liang and Smoke making Shirai Ryu, Johnny making movies about their experience, Takeda going back to deal with yakuza problem, Mileena being appointed the new queen by Sindel before the latter dies and got absorbed into Ermac).

I have to be honest with you. Nitaras ending was kinda cool. Just sucks that Megan Fox doesn't do well with voice acting. And mileena kinda deserves her ending.
