This comparison looks very interesting to me not only because of its own subject but because this close detailed comparison between MK9 and MK11, that ive never seen this way before, made me reflect and realize that somehow i started preferring simpler designs like some from MK11-1, above the often detailed designs of MK9. In MK9's time i was in my 20s, and now im in my 30s, so something changed my tastes.

One thing mk 9 does better over mk x to 1 is damage models. They didn't hold back on attention to details. Like when your character gets beaten up...they get beaten up! Bruised eyes, ripped clothing, flesh being torn in certain areas and even showing you literal bone in some cases. In every mk game since then, it's just been covering the character with a ton of blood.

@@masonulland7878 all outfits in mk9 look stylized, unique and they're all extremely iconic and different from one another. In mk1 a lot look too samey cause they're meant to be replaced by stuff you'd get in the shop to customize them, also by choosing a more "realistic" art direction they made them all either extremely plain and boring or extremely over designed and busy.

But, I’d argue a lot of the mk9 designs tend to look a bit overdesigned too, like the amount of belts those characters wear. Idk, I see where you’re coming from, but in characters like Reptile or Kitana I think the mk1 designs are improvements. Especially with the female characters.

@@masonulland7878No way do the female characters look better in MK1 hahah, literally most decent looking women in real life look better than Mk1 females, in Mk9 they look better and yeah a bit unrealistic but its a video game so i take that over those 2/10 females in MK1 any day. The sweet baby inc. influence clearly shows and theres a reason MK1 is already dead while T8 and SF6 get insane numbers everywhere, nobody wants to play with trash looking characters.

@@d.ink3d Mk1 is dead because the gameplay isn’t that fun, and they traded the krypt and tot for invasions mode and invasions mode sucks. As for how the female characters look, I suppose it’s just my personal preference to have realistic people, not that the mk1 females are even “realistic”. But honestly, if what’s stopping you from playing a game is that there isn’t enough naked women in it, I’d suggest you just put the controller down and go outside.

Hanzo Hashashi Scorpion > Kuai Liang Scorpion I said it once, and I'll keep saying this until my dying breath: Hanzo is the REAL Scorpion as Kuai Liang IS Sub-Zero after Bi Han. As interesting as Kuai Liang being the new Scorpion, I can't help but be weirded out. MK1 has a lot of origin changes, that much I know, and I'm all for them, but Kuai as Scorpion isn't exactly one of them. I guess it works in Liu Kang's timeline, so it gets a pass I suppose. Kuai Liang Sub-Zero = Bi Han Sub-Zero As I said, Kuai Liang is basically THE Sub-Zero. I know Bi Han started it all, but we didn't really see him much as Sub-Zero as he's only been in 4 games, if Sub-Zero Mythologies isn't counted which would equate to 5 games. That's where we see Bi Han as an actual character that develops in his story. Kuai Liang has been holding the mantle for damn near 3 decades throughout 10 games, meanwhile Bi Han was demoted to Noob Saibot as a jobber throughout that same span, so really, we didn't see him develop much in either form. Didn't exactly help that Bi Han was rewritten to be straight up evil in MK1, but then again I'm not surprised. I'll take evil Bi Han over Twindel, that's for damn sure. MK9 Liu Kang =< MK1 Liu Kang I love both versions of Liu Kang, but if we're talking models, then MK1 for sure. MK9 Kitana = MK1 Kitana It's a tie right here, because the hair is basically the same, only MK1 brought it back. Lol, I love both versions of MK9 and 1 Kitana, which stands out in their own ways. MK11 has the best face yet for her. MK9 Kung Lao =< MK1 Kung Lao I just find Kung Lao in 1 to be better overall. The only reason this is a tie is because MK9 has the best default fit. God Raiden = Human Raiden It's a really tough call. If we're talking character-wise, both are good in their respective ways. It's a tie. MK9 Dark Raiden - MK11/MK1 Dark Raiden None of them are my favorite, since this is NRS incarnation we're talking about. Sadly this version went absolutely nowhere, even with the buildup throughout the games. But if we wanna talk designs, then I'd have to say MK9 because it's a nice callback to Deception Raiden's design(which is honestly THE definitive Dark Raiden). MK9 Mileena MK1 Jax Although not as good as MKX Jax, 9 stands out very well, at least for his time there. MK9 Kano > MK1 Kano 9 is a close second to his 11 counterpart. I love the full beard he has in 9, which makes him look a bit haggard, but 11 has the better face, better character overall. MK1 isn't exactly anything to write home about honestly. MK9 Quan Chi = MK1 Quan Chi This one's tough. It seems that 1 perfected his look, but MK9-X Quan Chi has this kind of charm to his character that just clicks so well. I honestly think his MKX look is peak design honestly, but when it comes to choosing between his 9 or 1 counter part, it's a tie. MK9 Ermac >>>>>>=< MK1 Ermac They had to turn Ermac into Voldemort, didn't they?... *sigh* Lord have mercy... 1 has better character for him, but for his design, MK9 ALL THE WAY. EVEN MKX DID HIM BETTER. EVEN FUCKING 11 WAS SLEEK! JUST WHAT THE ACTUAL *FUCK* HAVE THEY DONE TO HIM IN MK1?! MK9 Goro >>> MK1 Goro Goro in 9 was a beast, and still is. MK1 Goro is.... meh. He's alright. MK9 Stryker >> MK1 Stryker Stryker was at his peak in MK9, from his overall design, story, character, he is THE Definitive Stryker. Damn shame he got the recognition he deserved that went only to obscurity, as a Kameo. I apologize to the Stryker fans. You all have my prayers. MK9 Sektor/Cyrax >> MK9 Sektor/Cyrax Both Cyber Bois were peak in MK9 mainly for how they functioned in the game. You can tell NRS went all out on both of them at the time, they gave them their human looks as their alternate not only just for show, but completely changes how they play. I love how the animations are so distinct from their cyber counterparts, and I can only hope that those kind of details return in MK1 considering that they're returning.

I don't agree. NRS shouldn't dress up them totally like monks in temple. They're women characters in combat - they should have free body's areas for suitable agile fight. It's hard to fight when you have a lot of clothes

MK 1 Sub Zero and Skorpion are not the same as MK 9 Sub Zero and Skorpion. In MK 9-11 Skorpion is Hanzo Hasashi and Sub Zero is Kuai Liang while in MK 1 Sub Zero is Bi-Han and Skorpion is Kuai Liang.. I don't know why they switched that up.
