I can't shake the feeling that Mortal Kombat 1 doesn't shake the franchise up at all. The roster list is threadbare, the cameo fighters while cool inclusions don't seem to have a purpose, and MK1 doesn't look like a step-up on MK11. I do love how MK1 feels and the Fatalities are extraordinarily gruesome, but I generally don't feel the significance of this entry.

Gotta appreciate the effort they put into the story. And the gameplay doesn’t miss, though we need some balancing (buff/nerfs). I’ve been having a great time with MK1

Obviously reviews are pretty subjective, but 8.5 seems slightly high for a story you didn't like, no Krypt and a unsatisfying unlocks

I remember when I thought MK3 had the "best graphics on the SNES" because the sprite work looked "So real, they look like actual humans!"

I'm just happy that KZbin exists so that I can watch all the cutscenes without having to buy a fighting game I'll never play lol. Mostly enjoyed the story, but the ending was pretty bad.

It felt so good to fall in love with a Mortal Kombat game again. I fell off after X and 11 but this brought me back in. Great review! L&R

I havent been into a fighting game since Soul Calibur (DC) & TTT (PS2).... this is the first fighting game that makes me want to give fighting games another try. I'll probably wait a year though.

The only aspects I hate, is the tedious grind to level up/unlock stuff, invasions being a complete chore and not fun, intros only being included in versus mode, and costumes being pretty bland and less varied overall.

I think the fatality variety hurts it ALOT. Why doesn’t Cyrax turn into a blue shark and eat the opponent? Why can’t I uppercut the opponent into the tree’s mouth? Turn them into a baby? The thing about MK was that the ality system made it unique from other fighting games. Sure they can “add all of it in later” but we’re talking about the newest entry, give me a feature rich content experience from the jump with everything from past MKs in like SF6. Don’t think 4 years was enough time. Maybe it was pushed out because WB only had this and Harry Potter for the year. No Wonder Woman game, Injustice 3 or the Suicide Squad game. If this game was just MK9 part 2, I believe the community would be happy to the brim about this. NRS just doesn’t get it, despite what people hear or see or cope about. This game will be “complete” in 2 years, I wanted it at launch…bro it didn’t even launch with crossplay lol. At this point remaster MK 1 through MK9, the past stuff was just objectively better. The passion was there
