You don't have to take a step for the charge slide to reach, you can just hold the button to keep running. You can also cancel the run, if you're quick enough. Other than the regular back 2, is there anyway to deal with enemies that constantly block low? I feel like my overhead arsenal is a bit lacking. None of your combos seem to work on a crouching blocking opponent.

@@TheorycrafterTV he just gave me the tip to use a kameo with an overhead. I think this is something Reiko really needs. His command grab should be able to be cancelled into. But for whatever reason opponents get pushed out of range. If you could cancel into it, he'd be a true brawler and a menace to deal with

This is the first Mortal Kombat that I actually plan to take a little more seriously and the minute I saw Reiko's gameplay I knew immediately that he was going to be my main. I find his look and fighting style to be so badass! Thanks for the guide!

Reiko works really well with Jax because of his air grabs, compensates for Reiko's lack of air specials. So you can just use an air grab during reiko's slide to follow up the kombo, instead of burning 1 bar of meter.

Thank you for this guide! Every time I play fighting games, it's really only for the story and NPC battles. Rarely do I ever go into online matches because of the anxiety of my skill, but MK1 is the game where I break that mold and I've chosen Reiko to help me overcome it! I found his simplicity to be easy to come by, and I wanted to start as a brawler (I refuse to start my journey as a zoning coward lol). Your guide has helped me immensely! I know I'll be losing, but if I can suplex and clothesline my way to a least a few wins... I'll take it🤣

Great video. I like how you pointed out notation in the beginning and during combos. However it'd be cool if you left dummy health on full so we can visualise the damage per hit better and not rely on the numbers. Also, keeping your button inputs on the side ON helps us know when you press the button ie up for the slide. But again nice and short video absolutely loved it.

Great video!!! I’ve been an Ermac/Raiden player primarily but Reiko seems like an underdog that I don’t see anyone play as much online… he seems more fun/easier to use than Havik which is someone I also wanted to be good with but he’s hard to connect the combos with.

I tried to be serious in MK11 but the characters I picked weren’t too prominent (Jade, Kung Lao) but I been Reptile maining since launch cuz I love the New reptile and I have watched some of your guides good to know I was figuring out the reptile combos on my own, but as I am two ranks away to maxing reptile I wanted to play another base character rather than Shang Tsung or Omni Man and a co worker suggested Reiko, so I ran a tower instead of labbing Reiko out and after getting his ending I just needed to see how I could be better at Reiko and this helped so much thanks for the great content, also you can get the DB3 when they’re falling from a air combo if you time it very correctly, I’ve done it twice

I also discovered using him that on the slide you can actually prolong it by holding in the last button and he will keep running until you release it. You can throw your opponent off if they think the attack is going to come sooner.

During the 121 you can use Sonya air combo, after that I can get an ex slide followed by a 3,4, db3 for about 370-380 forgot how much but it’s around there

Great video! I only have 1 suggestion and that's cutting to the end of the fatal blow. I understand removing it due to monetization but it would be nice to see the damage of the full combo. It would be great for you to put the damage number of the combo or cut to the end of the fatal blow. Great guide all around though!

After his air 121 you can use Goro’s far pop up (Up+R1 iirc) and you can follow up with his slide. If you meter burn it and get correct juggle you can get a few more hits off, however I find hitting the slide consistently to be tricky as either you won’t make the distance or the pop up might not be enough. It really depends on your Goro timing and air combo timing I think.

i know its late buuuuuut when i was trying this out i noticed that if you hold the slide for a really short time and let reiko tale an extra half step it becomes much more consistent because you wont fall short nearly as often with just a few extra pixels of movement

Another little tip if you wanna mix in some kameos sonya air punch thing can combo with your air string which can help extend the combo because you can now hit them on the way down 😊

If you use goro kameo you can almost guarentee and extra 8% after a comand grab if you time the stomp right as well as get extra damage from the ground and pound making the basic f124 combo 35% instead of 30%

Reiko is my top pick in MK1. He 's move are more realistic in my opinion. Like a true grappler in real life. When I play him online, people get madd & upset when i use his overhead punch, front suplex, and sweep kick, to keep my opponents off balance, lol!

another corner combo for those wondering wanting more F 124, 434, exBF3, 3 or 1, BDF1 I say 3 or 1 because 1 tends to be easier to get the command grab for me, but 3 is more dmg if you get the timing down or ex the grab for more damage and you can time darrius for a "restand" after the command grab and do another 1 or 3 then another command grab for WAY more damage so that would look like F 124, 434, exBF3, 3 or 1, BDF1, kameo, 1 or 3, exDBF1 its crazy damage

I played some MK11 but with MK1 I really started playing the game. I am really struggling with easy Combos.. is it normal that I am not able to do something simple like pressing 3 buttons into an Special attack ? Does someone have similar problems ? The timing can be a bit hard to get used to, with combos it’s about pressing the sequence without stopping, so most the time you might do, 1-1-2-BF2 as if your dialing a phone, no pausing. And it’ll go through. It just takes time to understand and learn the timing. Keep at it!

It’s a very small bubble that’ll actually grab, I’ve found the enhanced version has a bit more range to it

Oh that’s just the command grab but you hold back during the move so the animation finishes by throwing your opponents back (behind you) it allows you to decide where to throw your opponent 😅

A low tier character without a doubt. It's not easy to use, the damage isn't high and it depends on Cameo or bars to build combos. Top tier characters like Liu Kang and Jhonny are much better and can build combos that deal great damage without wasting their resources. They are easy to use BTW

My biggest problem with this character is a lack of overheads in strings that can actually combo. On his standard hits if the opponent stand blocks the first it will always be a mid/high/overhead. Then since the character has no overhead specials or in strings they can just crouch block and guarantee block whatever you have. I know you have the low slide but that requires a bar to combo. The amplified grab counts as a mid rather than high… but that costs 2 bars and doesn’t combo! I just feel like his pressure isn’t there for a character that is meant to be up close.

You aren't supposed to do the full string. Cut them short then mix. If they crouch block after you jab then do f2. They stand block, u grab. Keep going till you feel like they're going to meter reverse. Block than full punish. I pair him with sector ppl will tend to block the missile so it's free grabs. Also after a grab you can use it to cover to be plus to go for another vortex situation.

Reiko is weak, I thought he would be my main since no Jax or Jackie but he is just a weak hybrid of both. He has Jackie's kicks but better but no damage. Jax command graps and attack throws but no damage. A grappler with no damage, weak.!

@@onestep That’s all you need is one solid projectile with cameos. His standings have crazy range, he’s gonna be all about getting in real quick then keeping the opponent at bay

You forgot his upward knee special. Its variaton of slide, its perfect for combo extender and combo starter. You can also use sektor to extend his combos. You can also do the full kick combo, slide kick special after, summon sektor to punch your opponent back in the air and the do the aerial combo string or command grab. Thats the longest combo i found thus far

NRS did Reiko bad. While Raiden and others are getying 50% combos and 400+ hits this guy has 350 hits with cheap damage output. His specials are a joke and that parry is so useless.
