Though I really wouldn't mind that explanation as round-about way for getting all the Kombat Kids back. Could be interesting character growth to drop them into a timeline where no one except Liu Kang recognizes them and they have to define themselves in ways besides their family line. Plus it gets the new blood back on the roster without aging up the classic characters.
