Mortal Kombat is an American media franchise centered on a series of video games originally developed by Midway Games in 1992. The development of the first game was originally based on an idea that Ed Boon and John Tobias had of making a video game starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, but when that idea fell through, a science fantasy-themed fighting game was created instead. Still, the developers paid homage to him with Johnny Cage (one of the main characters in the franchise), a fictional film star whose personal style resembles Van Damme's.
The original game spawned many sequels with several action-adventure games. It also has a comic book series and a card game. Movie producer Larry Kasanoff licensed the rights to the game in the early 1990s and produced the first movie of the franchise. Kasanoff also produced the second movie, animated TV series, live-action TV series movies, the first one million platinum-selling album, and a live-action tour. Mortal Kombat has become the best-selling fighting game franchise worldwide and one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time.
The series has a reputation for high levels of graphic fighting, including, most notably, its fatalities, which are finishing moves on defeated opponents instead of knocking them out. Controversies surrounding Mortal Kombat, in part, led to the creation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) video game rating system. Early games in this series were also noted for their realistic digitized sprites and an extensive use of palette swapping to create new characters. Following Midway's bankruptcy, the MK development team was acquired by Warner Bros. Entertainment and reestablished as NetherRealm Studios.

I find it funny how in the trailer Shang is killing everyone brutally but then Liu Kang just kicks once and he keels over. Its like Liu’s saying “No! Bad Shang Tsung! Bad dog!”

All I could think about during the trailer was “holy shit, some of these backgrounds might be arenas!” The oriental cafe area where Scorp & Sub meet, that beautiful Edanian background in Kitana and Mileena’s shot! I’m okay with these beatific arenas in the sunset mixed in with some of the darker grittier arenas. The PS Showcase next Wednesday cannot come soon enough

Yeah, the environments look beautiful. MK9, MKX AND MK11 all had the trailer backgrounds as stages, so it's a really good chance!

That’s exactly what it was. Not to mention I keep seeing people say they want to see what the gameplay looks like because they think it won’t look as good as the trailer as if the game isn’t made in UE5. We all know that anytime the character walks up to the screen like that that’s how they look in game. He looked exactly how he did in the trailer if not better.

MK looking good as always, I’m happy I saw my two favorite characters subzero and Mileena, I’ll have to wait until we get some gameplay of MK1. Before I’m all in, somewhere in the middle or it’s fucked. I’m hoping this is a comeback to grace

Same! The very first shot with the rice had an exact Raiden color scheme (especially MKX costume) was a dead giveaway that it was human Raiden but if that wasn’t clear enough, the next shot is him standing with a thunder/lightning behind him to let you know it’s Raiden! It is kind of sad to see him like this, he was so majestic as Dark Raiden with red lightning and 8 foot tall. I’m sure he’ll eventually get his powers back but I wonder if that will happen in this game or future installments and if not, I will he play bc I honestly would rather he sits out as an NPC if he’s not going to have his lightning abilities and will just punch and kick you to death 😂

@@nerakar6562 I can pretty much guarantee he'll have his lightning powers in game play. Perhaps not in story, or at least, not for the entire story, but he'll definitely have his powers in actual game play.

The assist would be like in marvel vs capcom 1. Because if the assist is like MK11 like in towers of time then yeah it would suck and a waste of trying something new in MK. A physical body has to be present when you call in the assist. It’s a reboot so how can you call in later MK characters??? A reboot to what extent right??? Because that has to be the great kung Lao, that has to be Bi-Han subzero.

That criticism about the fatality is so ridiculous. Your tired of people being split in half? Meanwhile at the same time you think all the fire stuff is too much and want him to just throw a fireball at him and kill him? Which one is it then? Do you want it to be simple or over the top? cause your complaining about both. How many different ways do you think a person can be killed? Of course your gonna see a lot of people split in half and of course it's gonna have to become over the top at some point for some level of originality to be able to happen. A lot of cynical nonsense is going on in that moment.
