Those will affect the colour, yes. Notice the gear page beside it. That is most likely where we will actually be able to customize the gear they are using and wearing. That is why in this video Scorpion is wearing his default mask in every outfit, though it's already confirmed we can change it.

Each skins has 4 color variations. There's enough slots for 20 skins so 5 different outfits / character to unlock, I hope.

Anyways for example, I loved scarlets new design, even tho she was sexier in mk9 her character was just boring to look at. This new design of her is great and they even added some cleavage in some of the skins which looks great too, but then you got Cassie who for some reason the made her skins futuristic and cover almost her entire body including her neck. If she had sonyas outfits she would have looked amazing.

@@j0hn00arthur Skarlet's two costume sets annoys me. Yeah I get it NR, you want to get away from problematic look, go the "realism" angle. But at least have the costume jive with her power set. She absorbs blood through her skin and stabs herself, Notably in the abdomen, to preform her certain abilities. For me, that's why I never mind her old outfit cause it made sense, fabric would just get in the way of how her powers. Now you got her covered up head to toe, even having heavier fabric and fucking leather straps covering her ab reign, the place where she needs to stab herself. I mean you got the boob window alt on the desert raider outfit, the needless slits and tiny hole in the other, and there places she doesn't stabs herself in. Hopefully her other costume sets rectify this with maybe having a ab window or at least have a two piece set that shows her midriff.

The former, armors outfit, look bland, nothing really eye catching. Sonya has just as bland set of costumes but edges out because of the workout outfits. Something other than just another boring military uniform. With Cassie, I was expecting more of a outlandish looking costume like her father to be part of her available set but i guess that might be unlockable.
