Sindel's retcon in 11 unintentionally creates a paradox, sort of. Let me explain. (Also, this might be a useless rant to some, but bear with me 😂) In Mk9, after Shao Kahn is killed by Liu Kang in the Kolosseum, Shao Kahn says that he can't invade Earthrealm because Sindel cast a protective spell when she died, preventing Shao Kahn from merging Earthrealm to Outworld as he did Edenia. But Quan Chi says that resurrecting her will lift the spell, thus allowing Shao Kahn to invade Earthrealm. So they resurrect Sindel, the invasion starts, and that's when Stryker's and Kabal's chapters begin. HOWEVER, this entire conversation and lore drop happens after Liu Kang's victory over Shao Kahn, making Earthrealm the victor of the Mortal Kombat tournament. Which only happens because Shao Kahn snapped Kung Lao's neck after the latter's victory over the Deadly Alliance, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. Meaning that realistically speaking, Kung Lao HAS to be killed in the Kolosseum for Shao Kahn to die, come back, order Quan Chi to ressurect Sindel, and cause her spell to be lifted, continuing the flow of Mk9's timeline. But the time merge stops Kung Lao's death from happening, which won't lead to Liu Kang finishing Shao Kahn, or Sindel's ressurection. And because these mentioned events never happened after the time merge, Sindel's revenant shouldn't even exist in the first place. Because after her resurrection, she goes to where Earthrealm's champions are hiding, and she kills all of them, except for Johnny and Sonya. And as she tries to kill Nightwolf, he takes her down with him, thus creating revenant Sindel in MKX and Aftermath. So now this massacre of Earthrealm's champions never happens because Sindel has yet to be ressurected, and thus, she won't die for a second time and made into revenant Sindel 2.0 or something... But, of course, Sindel's revenant is still around, as seen in MKX and Aftermath. In the latter game they used said revenant to restore Sindel, making us believe she has again become, a GOOD. PERSON. But later in Aftermath, its revealed that Sindel was ALWAYS evil, proven by the fact the she says in the story mode, and her tower ending, that SHE killed her husband, King of Edenia; Not Shao Kahn killing him and taking Sindel as his bride by conquest. But if Sindel always was evil, why would she cast a spell on Earthrealm, protecting it, at the cost of her life? A self-centered, narcissistic, straight up cruel woman, would give her own life to save Earthrealm from merging with Outworld? And how would she even be confirmed to be evil, if she never was ressurected, never got killed by Nightwolf, and become a revenant again?! She wouldn't exist at all in the physical world, alive or revenant! Again, call it useless ranting if you'd like. But seriously, NOTHING in Aftermath makes any sense regarding Sindel. Her revealed to be evil literally takes nothing from the previous timeline, because of course, you need a plot twist villian for your story 😑. To recap: Because Kung Lao never got killed by Shao Kahn, Shao Kahn himself would never die, and never telling why Sindel died in the first place. Thus, she will never be ressurected by Quan Chi, never kill the champions, thus making their revenants a paradox, and her revenant won't exist either to be purified by Fujin and Shang Tsung in the Soul Chamber! NRS, please fix Sindel's character, because holy shit, this whole twist villian arc is just as dumb and pointless as me writing this comment in the first place... Anyways, yeah, that's what I think of Sindel in Aftermath. And look, I'm not expecting to be agreed with, this is all my opinion regarding Sindel's retcon. If you have any counter arguments, or just want to say I shouldn't have written this, I would like to hear your thoughts regardless 😂
