For repairs like this, how hot do you keep your iron in F or C? I often struggle finding the right temp and fear of getting the board too hot. Thanks.

Hi Mike! How do I get in touch with you for a repair? I’ve got a buzzing from an MK2 sound board that needs some work.

I sent you a FB message.

That did not sound like a bad opamp. Then I would expect it to be either very quiet or very distorted (but with the correct audio in the background). I noticed that the ribbon cable was oriented the opposite way round after you replaced the opamp the 2nd time so are you sure an incorrect orientation did not cause the weird audio? It sounded like the audio buffer did not get updated properly so it was just looping some noise with the occasional changes to the samples. That could be caused by some error in the address or databus, i.e. if they were not connected correctly.

No. With the ribbon cable backwards at one end, you’d have no game sounds at all. With the opamp I replaced the first time, I had the bad audio. That’s a classic symptom of either the opamp or DAC being bad. I installed a different opamp and it fixed it right up. Normally I would agree, but in this case it was a bad replacement opamp. Those are the most common failures on these sound boards.

Hi mike, i have a very similar question like @tishnikov... idk if youll see this msg anytime soon but on my mk2 i have no sound except for buzzing.. i replaced entire cap kit and ribbon.. this video might help because im not sure if i replaced both of those chips.. however i did replace chip cu37 and cleaned the entire board.. it did work briefly once i did all that but then cut out again and haven't had sound again since.. any advice?

Is your heat sink getting super hot, super cold, or just luke warm? Could have a bad main amp or broken leg(s) on it.
