Basically the music here is Outworld's version of that Far Eastern style of music that was in the first game. Basically saying; "This isn't Earthrealm. Everything you've seen before in the last tournament is nothing compared to what shall await you here in Outworld". Which I really like alot. Hands down my favorite theme in Mortal Kombat II is The Tower (Air Kombat). I've heard that track is actually Kitana's theme, which I guess it would make sense since it has that mysterious, beautiful, but majestic Outworld element to it, and that Far Eastern warrior vibe merged into which was what Kitana was in this game. She was this beautiful, but mysterious ninja assassin who was thought to be from Outworld, but is this beautiful princess from Edenia (which is merged within Outworld thanks to Shao Kahn).

Ah yes the game that introduced other well known characters like Kung Lao, Kitana, Jax, Mileena, Baraka, Kintaro, and Shao Khan. Now as for Jade, Smoke, and Noob Saibot, they were the hidden opponents in this game before they were playable characters in others with moves of their own. We also know that Reptile technically appeared in the first game as a hidden opponent before he was a playable character in MK II with his own moves. A place like Outworld sets the dark atmosphere for this classic MK sequel. Dan Forden kicked ass with the sound production as always. The stages were iconic as well and some were reused in the MK 3D era later on. This is when their main developers decided to add new features like each character having two fatalities each that were twice as bloodier. Plus they were adding in non violent finishers for each of them with friendship and babalities for a comical relief to get back at softies from then who couldn’t stand the extremities of the violence.

When you think the groove is about to kick in, it doesn’t then it suddenly comes out of nowhere. It’s like listening to Meshuggah or something. I’m wondering if Dan did this on purpose to create even more tension for the players? Since it feels like there’s no solid 4/4 beat you can get into rhythm with whilst playing… (The Kombat Tomb being a prime example)
