I would've thought 3 million copies sold so far was pretty good 😕

Kinda left out the part where most of MK1's first month 3 million sales were digital compared to the 1.5 million digital for MK11 when MK11 came out on the more widely available PS4 and Xbox One during the quieter spring time compared to MK1 being only on current Gen and releasing during the competitive fall season

Acclaim's Jame's MK Fink from @theonblastshow2012 made a good point on Twitter today. "3 million “sold in” that mean it made it to the s[h]elf… not sold to consumers."

Beyond not trusting a word from David Zaslav who’s currently in a lawsuit for falsifying/inflating numbers. Preorders/initial sales do not indicate how good a game is. It indicates 2 things: how well it was advertised and how good the previous game in the franchise was. A good portion of current gen gamers have discless digital only versions meaning they have to buy digital. MK11 broke records by being the top selling game across all platforms in the month of April. Even if MK1 outsold the playerbase drop off is an even more drastic difference.

I think another fact is inflation. Many people are trying to save money and are going to indie games because they are cheaper.

Cheaper and complete! You can really feel the love put into them in comparison to a lot of games by many AAA companies.

@@RealmKast it’s the reason why the indie horror game has been booming recently. But even now it’s in a dire situation with merchant launching on first day and questionable appeal to children (some of the games are not very child friendly)

Mortal Kombat is dying. And WB wants to turn our favorite game in to a freaking mobile piece of crap. Like if that stupid mobile version was not enough. They are killing what we used to love, and that golden joystick award is just a pure laugh because, they awarded MK1 for best multiplayer, when in reality there is nothing best about it. It doesn't even have a very simple features, like wifi filter or lobby, but somehow MK1 won over Street Fighter 6 that has tons of content and actually good multiplayer. What a joke! And now they wanna turn MK1 in to freaking mobile game. Take a guess what next NRS game gonna be like. Other words, MK franchise is gonna be dead, if we don't start voting with our money and stop shilling like crazy for nothing. Or next thing you know, you gonna need to pay to even launch the game, or to be able to press a button.

I think they're taking notes on micro transactions from EA.

Yay! Love you guys! I've been wanting to start my own MK channel or podcast. I've been a fan since the first MK arcade machine hit my arcade. Let me know if you ever are looking for another voice or view of the series. Keep rocking out guys!

I never thought I would genuinely dislike a main entry in the series. Mortal Kombat 1 is an Insult to the franchise and its fanbase. Its a $70 unfinished game with less features and Content than MK11 not including the Kombat pack and they still charge you separately for skins and fatalities while other games the skins came free with the Kombat pack. It also completely trashes the original concept of the lore and its fighters for a reboot nobody really asked for expecting us to buy into it as we did for the Original timeline.

3 million is really good though. It is much better than what Street Fighter 6 was able to sell, and that game's marketing campaign was actually good. I doubt WB sees these numbers as a failure; on the contrary, it made them confident enough to confirm 3-4 years of post-launch support. Microtransactions are awful, but unfortunately they work. It is why free-to-play mobile games make the most revenue.

I've been a Mortal Kombat since 99-ish, and basically, MK as a *gaming* franchise was done for me after MKX. I like MKX, still play it occasionally. But when MK11 was coming out, all the details regarding the gameplay, the story and all the surrounding controversies made me pause and not buy the game right away. I ended up not buying it at all, and never regretted that decision. I was hoping, kinda naively, that after 11 the franchise would get some rest. Evidently, NRS wanted to do that too, but WB was, is, and will continue to be one of the worst companies out there. So we got MK1. half-baked, overmonetized, broken mess. I wasn't even planning on buying it, as to me, what was left of the MK of old, seized to exist when MK11 was done with. Haven't bought it, never will. The push for live service stuff has been in motion for *years* , especially in the west . It's not stopping, no matter how many failed life-service games there are. The only thing I can do personally is just not participate. I ended up buying SF6 in June (my first SF game, btw), since it's a complete game on launch that *works* . So rare these days. Yes, its monetization is shoddy af too, but I ain't buying any battle passes there either. I find myself looking forward to Tekken 8, another game I had no interest in before. In the end, NRS and WB lost me as a fan, as a customer. Regarding movies - I dunno, man. I *really* didn't like the 2021 version. We'll see. at least the cartoons are okay, if not good, and MK lore is good for serialized TV. That's probably the only stuff I'm mildly excited for. Otherwise, I'll always have the old games, movies (hell, I like Annihilation more than 2021) and other stuff. The new "product" is of no interest to me, that's just what it is.

I believe a number of things need some light here. Firstly the game sales are reflected up on the number of consoles people can play it on. I only know a handful of people who have made the jump (personally from ps4-ps5 or xbox). So sales on consoles are probably going to jump after Holidays as they always do. Mk x was on PS4 and Xbox long after people bought the consoles.. after mk 11 and so on the results .. and now mk 1 which wasn't ported..so it was a given everyone wasn't going to be on board considering the economics of it all. The second thing I think people need to understand most of all is that games are on a weird state in that microtranstions are the only way companies will make any money. Arcades are long gone and just selling a complete fighter just isn't going to happen nor is it sustainable for a high graphics, high online maintenance, and so on cost for those after. Yes the content is probably a big issue but considering you paid 70+ for the content you knew you would get from an mk game (base story mode, arcade mode, online, some side missions, some rewards) considering the state of games now where everyone wants something new every week/month like every game is Fortnite or call of duty this is almost impossible to do with content yet...here we are. We did it to ourselves and have no one to blame yet so many are going to cry about it..
