Johnny Cage is my favorite character in the entire Mortal Kombat series! I just love how he is a funny douchebag most of the time and that nut punch is hilarious. But they kind of made him suck, he has one low that is unsafe, and everything else is either a high or a mid. So all they have to do is block high for everything, thats why I stick to Cassie.

SoulFlameXXX you don't need to have great mixups to be a great character, you just have to be able to play footsies and johnny has exceptional footsie tools

SoulFlameXXX Johnny's 1,1,3 ends in a cancelable low, so you should be able to cancel into d,f+2 to make it safe on block.

I see what you mean. To get over this problem, you bait your opponent to block low by using his footsie and poking strings. Johnny Cage is a character that depends on overheads, high and mids and so one is generally safe by blocking high. That's where his footsies and pokes come in handy. Where an opponent is blocking high, simply use any of his poking strings such as his Low Kick (d3) and Turnaround Heel (d4). Even though natural combos, they give him an advantage as if they hit the opponent, he would be forced to start blocking low so you can use the Hammer Fist (f2) to open them up. Hammer fist (f2) leads into f24 and f244 which are safe on block and really get Cage going. When you do the f24, the opponent is the air and you can follow up with other combos and reset him with a nut punch. Doing so with a nut punch can create a 50/50 as you can do the low pokes or throw. Doing this over and over again would make your opponent block low and high creating a guessing game. Make use of his EX Nut punch and f4 to extend such combos. Even though his 50/50 may not be as effective as Cassie's, mixing his great pokes and footsies creates a guessing game for your opponent as he becomes unsure of when you would transition from your footsies to your Hammer fist. Spice it with with his 113 which ends in a cancelable low and you create a 50/50 game with Johnny.

One thing you forgot about A-List's b+2, is that a charged hit causes a crumple stun, which you can use to link f+3 or f+2,4, for a combo.

You're videos are awesome! thanks! Could you do a noob starter tutorial video for people like me who are just getting to Mortal Combat and don't really understand all the lingo? Like what do the numbers you say mean and what do you mean by chip damage. I know it's common sense to most players and after watching enough videos I've caught on. I just think with the release of PC the will be a lot more new players getting into the game. Any way keep up the great work!

On PlayStation, this is what the numbers mean. Square is 1, triangle is 2, X is 3, circle is 4, so for example, when he says "1,2,1", its just square, triangle, square. Down back 4 is just down back circle. On xbox, same thing. X is 1, Y is 2, A is 3, B is 4. Chip damage is just the damage a move does when its being blocked. It "chips" away at the opponent

I explained it on console terms because I'd assume youre using a controller if youre playing on pc. But if not, then I cant help with that. Idk the pc version's 1,2,3 and 4's

I play on pc with a key board and i have spent enough time watching your and other's video that I, for the most part, understand what you're talking about. I was just thinking that a video on the basics of when to block, when to poke, how to set up combos and a little bit of terminology for us new players would help a lot of new players stick with the game because they would have something to practice. and i'm 93% sure that the pc's 1=J 2=I 3=K 4=L Thanks again :D

Did you know that you can actually combo after f3 if it hits in his a-list variation. All you need to do is run cancel out of the charged version, then cancel the run into any normal

When his health gets low in fisticuffs he gets new special move properties, a new throw and more damage.

Brian Waterman I don't know if it's from a recent patch, but it appears that he gets those same low health buffs in his other variations now, too. I've had it happen, while playing Stunt Double.

me and a friend got mortal kombat for ps4. And its my first fighting game ever. But after some hours of play it still seems so overwhelming.. Like all the diffrent combos etc + the fact that i cant make them work because im too slow on the buttons i guess? What is the best way to improve and learn and remember the good combo's etc?

+vidal4life Chip damage is the damage done while your opponent is blocking which is normally a small amount of damage, but some characters can more chip damage then normal like Johnny Cage in the Fistcuffs variation. (Go to 3:18 and watch Liu Kang's while he's blocking.)

***** Just wanted to add something here. If you check the frame data for each string in the options, there's a "cancel" section. If its not 0 then you cancel out of it. Hope that helps!
