I actually like Harros the most. Yes, Solomon is technically a direct upgrade in terms of stats but I find Harros' hardening perks to be much more useful in combat, especially since a good chunk of them are glimpse related. And I seem to be one of the few that really enjoys the Smoldering Mace? 🤷🏾‍♂️

The smoldering mace is fantastic and instantly became my favorite as soon as I saw the moveset. Giant arching swings for multiple opponents and a heavy finisher that as far as I can tell does the most poise damage of any regular hit in this game.

@@ikillzombys1 thing is specials make you invulnerable...which means as fun as tiel is for clearing trash mobs around the map he's not as good on bosses as Solomon (or hadern after you get dlc). Solomon clears bosses completely safe very easy.

I just completed Mortal Shell with Solomon and he is pretty awesome. After you acquire "Forbidden offering" from the female trader near Eredrim's shell it becomes easy to get resolve during battle and use weapon abilities frequently during boss Battles.

And with Solomon and the Hammer and Chisel, it's just ridiculous, because you actually generate resolve from the multiple hits of the weapon art x'D

Tiel is my favorite shell too. I love using him with the martyr's blade or hammer and chisel. I would use the other shells, but martyr's blade is my favorite weapon and Tiel is pretty much the only shell that's fit to wield it lol

Hammer and chisel mobility is just godlike I love it. But that knockdown on heavies with Marty's blade was just stupid strong lol. They make the sword and mace kind of irrelevant.

@iori1391 Wow. It seems that you take it a bit personal. Maybe I am wrong. Anyway I was trying to explain that the Martyr sword is affected by NG+.For example. In NG I can one shot a whole group of brigands with just one swing,the first. In NG+ that is no longer posible. You will stagger them, not kill them.So you will need another strike to finish them of and the next movement is not a swing,but a stab.Then you will kill one and the others already recovered from the initial impact and will attack you.Of course,you can always harden and tank the chip damage,but in NG+7 that chip damage is not as small to be considered chip damage(once they even knock me down of my shell)And you can say"Who try to fight a whole group of enemies in a souls games?" Fair enough,but in NG you can do that with Martyr sword,but after that not anymore. So in NG the Martyr Sword is OP and perfect for Tiel. But in NG+ is not the best choice and all that extra swing consumes enough stamina to make you need to fall back some times,even with the large stamina pool of Tiel.The Hammer and Chisel outperforms it,because it gives you high mobility so you can enter and exit of the combat,fight groups of enemies and fills your resolve bars faster. That's bad, because Martyr sword is my favorite weapon and Tiel my favorite class,but not even with the weapon in + 35 I can one shot anything as before.I went to NG+7 to see if eventually the upgrades would make my weapon to perform as in NG but NOPE. NG + destroyed the status of OP for that weapon.I still play with it though,just for fun and challenge. And for the great poise damage it causes

iori1391 idk if you guys know of this tech, but you can animation cancel any attack into a running attack, and this works best with martyr’s blade. Try this tech out, it brings the martyr’s blade to a whole new level. Gone are the days of knocking an enemy over with a heavy attack and not being able to reach them after that. Just animation cancel into running heavy and you’ve knocked them over again :D

@iori1391 Good that I was wrong about you taking it personal. Well,now talking about the weapons. Of course the damage goes down for all weapons,but the martyr blade is the most affected. Why? Because it is a weapon with so much stamina consumption and every hit must make the best use of the stamina it consumes. With the Hammer and Chisel,due to the great amount of hits you can do on an enemy the damage going down is not as important and the resolve gain compensates it. Anyways,I am not struggling,I git gud,well,more forced to do that due to the game "nerfed" my favorite weapon.I like to fights crowds of enemies and I usually win untouched even with my weapon not hitting as hard as before.It is just that the Martyr sword is not the powerhouse it was in NG.It still good,and I love to stagger enemies bigger than me and chain strikes and stagger them continuously.It is just that,as YOU wrote and me too,in my second comment,the martyr sword is no longer the best option for Tiel and others weapons overperforms it. And using another shells,is debatable,because the insane resolve gain from one of the special abilities with the Hammer and Chisel lets you spam special attacks under certain conditions.And about the enemies giving you time for kill two of them,that is debatable.Sometimes they go for being knocked down to a jump attack in like a second.Once this happened to me: All the enemies recover very fast from the first swing and jumped against me at the same time,I harden but the chip damage combined of four brigands yeeted me from my shell and I was like:"WTF?" I just laughed and return to my shell xd.

Eredrim and Solomon are tied as the best for me. Eredrim tanks everything and has his damage stacks up to 100 and he's just a powerhouse. Solomon has 6 bars of resolve and with th e resolve upgrade and his ability to sometimes heal when using a weapon art makes him near immortal since gaining resolve is easy and you can spam them with him. Harros is good for people who are comfortable with the game and he revolves around this games mechanic which is hardening which is very fun when you learn it. I'm sorry but tiel needs a huge buff the only thing he has going for him is stamina and a cool dodge that's it. Poison is near useless right now and having infinite stamina for running is pointless and most of his abilities revolve around poison which imo the devs didn't flesh out enough. I will say that tiel can handle weapons the best just because of his stamina. I consider tiel to be the dark souls archetype.

I love tiel for exploring / chaining easy mobs But for bosses, he's just totaly behind the others because he's just too squishy ... He's kind of the one being behind overall i suppose, as a lot of his kit is either inconsistent or flat out "bad/useless" (endless run is cool for the sake of always running and going fast, but it's useless unless you're a master at the game and use it to "dodge" with it ...)

Harros is probably the best. The fact that you can instantly regenerate stamina when you harden is a game changer since after you attack you have a two second cool down before you regen. Getting rid of that delay is a game changer

Harros gives you by far the most space for mistakes, which is extremely important when you play a game for first time. Stronger and faster harden is god send. His HP and stamina are solid compromise-you need both during boss fights. Last but not least Harros can farm flimpses like no other shell. He is absolutely best shell to max out early beacause you can get all glimpses for his upgrades as drops, this leaves all echoes for use by other shells.

I like how Mortal Shell handles the RPG aspect. Instead of levelling up health, stamina, strength, dex, etc, they give you four different pre-made builds to choose from and further develop.

I believe that in NG+ the most affected shell are Harros and Tiel.That chip damage disencourages you to use harden and if you have an already small health bar you cannot afford suffer that little damage.So is Eredrim or Solomon.

I like Eredrim a lot because he makes everything so easy. He deals massive damage with his stacks plus the isolated target bonus. You can basically onecombo almost every enemy. With the base weapon fully upgraded, full stacks and isolated bonus you can two hit the halberd dudes with light attacks.

Harros saved the game for me. Found it clunky and frustrating until i got all his hardening upgrades. Now i fly in there with running attacks harden in mid air lol Plus he is quick to max out and farm glimpses with to unlock fast travel and level the other shells

Solomon is the most op shell period. Cuz of how broken weapon specials are. Go in, hit special, stagger, deal more damage build resolve, special again rinse repeat. Makes boss fights a joke. Pop superior moonshine before bosses to get back max resolve

Just beat the game with Tiel and Martyrs Blade exclusively. He can swing it 6 times and with it you can attack out of 90% of enemies range, including bosses.

I alternated betwee Eredrim and Tiel for most of the game. The other two are just too "middle of the road" for me. If I'd have to choose just one, I'd say Eredrim is my personal favorite, as I like to be able to tank and take damage, and I like the way every fight becomes a sort of a chess game between hardening, dodging and attack with your low stamina but high HP.

i like all of them tbh and completed the game with everyone, as you said harros does a bit of everything and the harden bonuses are actually insane later, solomon can stunlock bosses with the weapon skills (except crucifix's first phase cause you get shot), tiel is amazing cause fast af boi and with hammer and chisel's extra poison you are almost immortal , and i felt eredrim was just easy mode, especially combined with the hammer and chisel as well since that leaves enough stamina to roll away

Tiel was the first shell I found. I instantly knew "This is my guy." Harros isn't bad. Hadern (yes, DLC) is AMAZING. But Tiel will _always_ be my favorite. Especially for his history with Genessa and the clergy in general.

I'm pretty casual, but I still think Tiel's the best. Only being able to take a couple or few big hits isn't much of an issue after you get used to relying on stamina and harden. Just farm welcaps and work on agility, learn those poise breaking moments, and DPS opportunities, etc.

Harros is a god when you max out his abilities specially the one which decreases the harden cooldown and the one in which he stay hardened for longer after being hit, you can easily tank throught Grisha's 3 consecutive attack without getting damaged due to the I-frames you get because of the ability to stay hardened for longer, saved my life soo many times. Also with the added bonus ability which replenishes your stamina almost instantly enabling harros to use the martyrs blade for a longer period before running out of stamina, imo this ability makes Tiel obsolete as i can use the martyr's blade for the same duration as Tiel if not more.

Solomon with smoldering mace or/and with hammer and chisel. He is OP, these weapons' abilities are OP, you can spam them and have I-frames and restore hardening cooldown (which gains good amount of resolve too if you're playing as Solomon). HaC gain more resolve and had slightly more powerful abilities but smoldering mace has OP running attack (and in this game you can use running attack standing still, so you can just spam running attack against weak enemies and use abilities against strong guys) and better against crowd. Moreover, Solomon has the sexy mask while Harros and Eredrim have just usual helms)

This game is all about bosses so: Tiel is only good with parries and dodges which I absolutely miss 99% of the time. Same for Solomon, he is all about the resolve, except if you have his upgrade and eat a bad tar to get expelled from the shell - you can heal from that and retreat, kinda like a little pause mid fight. And the only two options left for me are Harros the stoned guy or Eredrim the beefy guy.

I love using tiel and that massive sword do a lot of damage but still are able to move around the map extremely fast and the stagger works fairly well to kind of knock enemies down and get away from if you can and it's great and boss fights cuz you can do a lot of damage quickly and still get out of there quick and if you add that Frozen ability to the massive sword helps keep the larger enemies at Bay while you're still dishing out a massive amount of damage

If anyone has the DLC to this game you can't forget Hadern, The Devoted he is what I would assume a jack of all trades as he can equip any abilities from the other 4 shells Harros, The Vassal/Solomon, The Scholar/Eredrim, The Venerable and Tiel, The Acolyte as well as 3 abilities he has of his own. But as I mentioned before you have to have the DLC I think to get Hadern I could be wrong but give him a try is all I will say and make your own assumptions and decissions.

Eredrim with the hammer and chisel (stamina used is very little). The acolyte with any weapon. These are the 2 shells I use. They’re total opposites of each other, but one does better then the other in certain areas

Honestly if you updated this, Hadern would be the best since you can take an ability you like from one of the shells + he has nice stamina and health at the start so he's the best since you can have the health of eredrim while having the stamina of Tiel making you basically unstoppable.

Have you checked the new shell "hadern"? It's part of the dlc and you can customize it with other abilities. I think it can be the best shell right now. But with these shells i like eredrim and harros. Eredrim is so tanky and harros for the spam hardening and stamina refill!

Hadern is like the DLC weapon, total easy mode. 1 bar specials by itself is game breaking but he also gets lots of hp and stamina and faster harden and improved harden aka invincibility...lol. They did the typical dlc thing and just made all the dlc stuff super overpowered.

just started playing today after playing code vein which was my first game that is sort of like this one and i’ll say that firstly this game is way harder. i played a squishy high mobility build in code vein and excelled so i tried out tiel and assumed i’d be just as good, but the way the combat is im just inexperienced. I can dodge well and easily overcome single fights, but when it comes to multiple enemies i always get folded. im probably gonna get used to combat and then give tiel a try another time

Eredrim's extra HP is not for "tanking hits". Absolutely not. It is for negating the game's attempts to cheap-kill you (even in Narthex NG+). A plausible margin of error. With Eredrim you die either because you are only learning to play, or because you've been killed by camera. No cheap-shot nonsense, and no one-mistake-restart bullshit. Not to mention that when your combat flow is fine-tuned, then you just slash through the game no problem, fragging things left and right. So definitely Eredrim. Followed by Solomon. No paper-mache warriors. For the weapons - Hallowed Sword / Martyr's Blade combo (NG+).

Solomon and Eredrim rank almost equally to me. While Solomon is insanely good with damage through weapon arts, I noticed that I hate his stamina balance. I actually like Eredrim more in that regard. "Why?" Do you ask? While his stamina is lower, he does have a faster regen, meaning that he technically has "more" stamina to use throughout a fight or to be more specific you have a more forgiving dodge window after attacking.

The bar is just capped, the Eredrim don't regen stamina faster, he just have less stamina and the stamina bar has a minimum size. It gets full faster just because it has less.

Tiel is super OP for me... once you upgrade him and whatever weapon you choose.. he’s OP. I flew threw all the bosses with him lol for me stamina is important because some of these enemies/bosses move quick and i need all the stamina i can get to move around and dodge freely. Upgraded Harros feels about the same stamina-wise if you use hardening liberally enough. But then there are the other abilities and stats, and that's where Harros is just straightup superior. Easy glimpse farming, double the resolve meter, about 40% more health (Both of Tiel's bars are actually misleading, they're smaller than they look), faster harden cooldown, etc. What does Tiel have? The only useful things are the stamina damage instead of hp damage perk, and all the shitty poison synergies that do basically nothing in the grand scheme of things.

For a first run & the early game, I'd say Eredrim is your best friend, imo: more room for mistakes, slow but allows you to learn without being too severely punished! ,Harros is pretty "solid" aswell ;D, only issue with him is that I find him slightly boring :( ...personal taste I guess! Tiel and the latest addition Hadern need a little bit of time and to upgrade their weapons to become effective, and are late game powerhouses! Personally I think Hadern is the best shell as you can arrange his talents to what suits you best ( not on the early game) but if we are talking vanilla game, I'd say Harros probably ! Last note on Tiel : decent mid to late game and once you're more familiar with the game mechanics & ennemies, he is very fast and is one of the few who can use the heavier weapons, aka Smoldering Mace & Martyr Sword effectively thanks to his Huge stamina bar!

The problem with tanker classes is that they burn through your items. Taking a lot of damage is fine and all but I would rather keep my health than blow it on weaker enemies. So Tiel or Harros would be my choices. I would also say depending on the type of Weaponry that you use to go with whatever class you choose will give you a big boost in the effectiveness of that class.

This is true but with Solomon you can just parry. Also with Solomon you can melt any boss if you have 6 full bars of resolve. So damage shouldn’t be an issue.

Eredim works because the extra health helps you have less risk when parrying and you heal from parries not mushrooms.

I use tiel to teach me how to keep dodging and be patient and punish myself when I Get to aggressive to my enemies because I spam heavy and if I get hit I'll learn to not to spam

I found Eredrim with the hammer and chisel is OP because I haven't found the cap on his bonus damage per kill stacks. I have gone into boss fights with 66 stacks and melted bosses in seconds and pretty much 2 tappen the big boys and 1 tappen the basic ads

I have played every shell for some time now and I do like them all, with Tiel and Eredrim being slightly more enjoyable for me over Solomon and Harros. Tiel really shines in the big areas like Eternal Narthex, as he can run with no stamina loss. His playstyle feels fast and rewarding, but he is the most challenging shell to play and has little to none room for an error. Even if you are comfortable with him, you still may want to change him with someone else for the boss fights, as most of his skills are useless in that scenario and you rarely need that much stamina there, unless you are using one specific weapon. Eredrim is probably the best shell for the first playthrough as it has both health to tank through any learning mistakes and the damage to kill things quickly when you get the grip on the game and start stacking decent amount of his passive with kills. It's the best shell to learn parrying, as you can afford to miss it several times. His low stamina is not a big deal with the right choice of weapon, but it forces you to fight very coolheaded and plan ahead, which is not a bad skill. Solomon is overall very good and easy to play shell but it feels a little bit boring to me. It can basically parry / weapon ability through most of the game, including bosses. With weapon abilities giving invulnerability for the most of the animation frames, it is almost a cheat. Harros is great for farming glimpses and with the skill that regenerates stamina when harden has second best stamina management after Tiel . Along with reduced harden cooldown and increased invulnerability time, he is a great choice for most of the bosses, especially the final one. Add to this both good health and second best resolve - and you get a very potent shell choice, especially if you like to use harden ability a lot.

Same I love tiel too on my fist game play I found tiel and boy o boy he is over powers I died not that often the to him I killed all the harden and the fire boss first time without dying once

on the highest level no shell is the way to go, cause u have near unlimited stamina, cause rolling or attacking uses less stam and u have the same amount as tiel. resolve gain ist good too with 4 bars. all speedrunners go no shell and its not because it takes time to get the right shell.

Speedrunners take no shell because you can move around a lot faster by roll spamming. That only matters on speed runs...dying in one hit is clearly a big downside and you don't see the speedruns where the guy dies to a random wave or something.

IMO Solomon would be the best by far if it wasn't for the Forbidden Offering. The increased resolve gain combined with Harros' abilities, 4 resolve bars and stamina regen makes him my favorite. Tiel and Eredrim are cool but I feel Tiel has way too low health and resolve (best character to use the Martyrs Blade though) and Eredrim is too slow and has almost no stamina.

@@norzza Of course, my first playthrough was with Tiel (once i got him) and the Martyrs Blade,, very good combo. I feel like the shells also have their "best" weapons. Harros - Hallowed Blade, Tiel - Martyrs, Solomon - mace and Eredrim meh. The Hammer and Chisel never really clicked for me either, but again, personal preference. The Claymore has been my favtorite since DS1 so i guess i am kinda biased there too haha

You can also not even bond with a shell at all and complete the game that way The black form just severs your connection to your shells You won’t get the trophy for completing the game Shell less this way The trophy specifically says Complete the game without bonding to a shell

This may seem weird but i like how eredrim and tiel are my favorites yet opposites. I love them both cos they feel unique and fun in their own way. But eredrim is definitly better jesus have you used a heavy hit with 100 stacks its game changing.

I guess I am that goofy guy that went Martyrs Blade Insta max + Harros / Tiel 200+ dmg in 3 attacks while being invincible by hardening or dodging forever +4 Martyr B. can one sprint heavy kill any lighter unit but if not dead then the knockback will grant you another free attack (which ususally kills)

I like tiel and eridrim because eridrim is really tanky and tiel can hit so many more times and is pretty good if you van tolerate the low heslth

I think eredrim is the BEST Shell. Really a Big SP, double than the second one. Only have a worst thing.. stamina is too low, only works good with sacred blade, and the hammer... Maze and mártir sword totally useless with this level of stamina

Platinumed the game. Tiel + Martyr’s Blade + Running R2 = almost easy mode. The fact that you can use that move to knock down lesser foes and stagger almost any enemy AND use it a couple more time in one stamina go is personally very OP. Pretty much the ultimate glass cannon. Used the same tactic for no shell run and it helps a lot to avoid attacks from enemies. Of course, he’s the least durable but when you can dodge crazy and harden it kinda negates the danger.

Well, it's all nice and dandy, until you get to Narthex level - especially in a new game +. Since most of the game plays like hack'n'slash - it is possible to "Tiel" through everything. But, mistakes will nonetheless happen, even if your combat flow is superb, and a frustrating death will follow. Awkward camera rotation will kill you on more than one occasion (esp. Narthex). With Tiel - the chance these things happen increase tenfold. Yes he can stack damage without even trying, - and get to over 400 dps per hit with Hallowed Sword...yeah, all true. But, for each 50 foes - one mistake (that will undoubtedly happen) will send you back to square 1. For this reason alone, Tiel is overrated.
