Hilarious. As a Vietnam veteran who has fired 1000's of 81mm rounds in combat, this is funny. #1, make sure your baseplate is anchored well, especially on low QE angles of fire. #2, there is a safety in the fuse that requires a high rate of spin before arming. Shaking a round out of the tube will not arm the round so there's no danger. #3, same as #2, the round did NOT arm on the blooper that just cleared the tube. I experienced several duds while in a fire mission, and just threw the round off to the side until we destroyed them later.

One of the reasons the second one was so dangerous (by this referring to the misfire not the hang fire), is because the “shotgun shell” did not completely ignite the propellant charges. This can actually be ignited by residual heat or just be set off by a slow burn.

The mortar round is launched from an ignition cartridge which is in the tail, so when the tail hits the bottom of the pipe it should fire. Might be dirt or something inside the pipe blocking it from falling hard enough so the cartridge didn't break, shouldn't be any danger in sliding it back out. Underlining "shouldn't"

Mi servicio militar fue en infantería mecanizada, sección morteros de 90... Lancé con mis compañeros cientos de morteros desde el suelo con la torta y el tripode y desde el TOW, y nunca nos ocurrió nada parecido... Es cierto que hay que tener un cuidado extremo cuando manejas esos proyectiles, una vez quitada la anilla ,si se te cae... y cae de cabeza ,que es lo más seguro ,todoS saldréis volando.... Recuerdo aquello como lo más impresionante que he hecho en mi vida... Ir al campo de tiro y lanzar todo tipo de municiones ,morteros, Milán, C90, browning calibre 50...etc,etc,... Era todo un espectáculo ,y el olor a pólvora se te mete en la nariz, y lo recordaras toda la vida.

минометный и артиллерийский снаряд роняй как хочешь, нужен выстрел что бы взвелся предохранитель, во второй мировой что бы метнуть мину руками били ее об станину что б взвести предохранитель на взрывателе. удивлен что у вас другие взрыватели

Mortars are no joke. I live in Hawthorne, Nevada, adjacent to the Hawthorne Army Depot, which is storage depot that's also used as a training grounds. In 2013, our small town's tranquil spring evening was shattered by non-stop sirens and countless helicopters, over the course of an hour or two. There'd been a horrific mortar incident on base. A group of young marines from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, were here doing live mortar training when the unthinkable happened. A second mortar was dropped into a tube after the previous one misfired -- and it had gone unnoticed. Both mortars then detonated inside the tube, killing or maiming all who were nearby. Seven brave soldiers paid the ultimate price and several others were seriously injured.
