I think it was suggested in the stream at the time, but once you built the walls to enclose the stairs, maybe you could change the wall into spandrels. Spandrels replace walls and only show up as being attached to the ceiling, so you can still have the lighting you want but then also not have to see the walls around the stairs. And I don’t think you’d need the archway either as Sims can walk under spandrels.

I wanted to play "wants-based" in the Sims 4 very badly, but I could never really get it to work in a way that satisfied me, even with whim mods. Traits, likes, dislikes, and attraction are all randomized and I kind of just use those to inform me of what actions that sim might take. I even use moodlets too. Like, a sim constantly burned out from work might quit or start skipping if they're not particularly ambitious. RPO is possibly my favorite Sims 4 mod. I love that that can feel negatively about the pregnancies. I never make them have kids without their own desire to. If they decide to autonomously woohoo without protection, that's on them though LOL. That helps make me feel like I'm orchestrating everything to a smaller degree. The way I play is kind of in-between wants-based because I'm definitely not exclusively following whims but I'm not determining their life from birth to death on my own either. I know you'd probably be adverse to loosening up on your own gameplay rules in Sims 4, but this is kind of how I've been able to enjoy it in my own way. It just doesn't have the same framework as the Sims 2 unfortunately. Sims 4 has some great features though (sentiments, compatibility, CAS, build mode, good graphics, more complex mods). I think we all wish we could just mash together our favorite parts of each Sims game.

The "share big news" option shows up in the relationship and pregnancy pie menu if it doesn't show up in the first menu

You can hold down the Alt key while placing furniture to freely move and rotate it without using any cheats

I play in a very similar way to you. If both of my sims are flirty at the same time I will let them woohoo. I always have them woohoo after they get married too. Missyhissy’s wants mods help with playing wants based a ton but they still rarely get any woohoo wants 🙁 so I play a little looser there.
