Just saw a rare performance of this last night by Amy Williams and the JACK Quartet. Fantastic! The Black Mountain College Museum is a very intimate space w fine acoustics. You lose track of time and become immersed in the lulling see-saw rhythms. While in this relaxed, receptive state you start to hear the details. It seems still and repetitious but it's constantly changing, too, like a musical mobile, each small change delivering a surprise. At 82 minutes, everyone I talked to agreed that we were left wanting more, not less.

It's a bit like running a marathon getting through to the end of this work. But the rewards are similar. An amazing composition of pure invention. Spare a thought for the performers, it must be a total nightmare to perform as the concentration levels must be enormous.

His music, always so quiet. We can then hear the minute shift of tone in each of his phrases. Not unlike brush strokes in paintings. How that painter just shifted the image so that the observer sees just that. Feldman gives us just these brush strokes of sound passage. I love how his compositions go on and on.

This album was recommended to me right beside a video titled "Signs that your wife is cheating on you" the conclusion I've drawn from this algorithm is that I'm in denial of traditional values, both in music as well as relationships. Tough luck youtube because the true conclusion is that I'm currently having an affair with a C-list violinists wife.

Static, formless, too long. Not something to listen to attentively from beginning to end, as a work of art. Maybe useful as a background to doing housework. Time for the post-war avant garde to come down to earth.

I can't stand people like you who hate on perfectly contemporary classical pieces like this; your type makes me so angry that I just want to vomit out the contents of my stomach and gouge my eyes out in a fit of total frustration.

Why do you consider voicing an opinion "trolling"? If I said, "wow, what an amazing piece", would you still consider it trolling? Let's be honest. As simple and clear as it is, you don't have the foggiest idea what my comment means. Keep reading and maybe someday you'll catch on.

I can understand you do not like this static choice of composition BUT, all this music is about silence, tensed harmonies, changes of color. The surprises to me are more on the harmonical point where there are some serious strange things here.

Simple piano clusters mixed with s bad violin lesson.Maybe next they should eat the bridge and lick the keys! Sickeningly terrible. Nothing here.

What are you expecting some romantic style violin technique with vibratos and rich dynamics? Get serious this is the 1980s. Anything but that will kill the piece. But hey, btw 'Nothing here' is a nice description of Morton Feldman.

I have carefully considered your analysis and decided that I will punctuate the premire of my next violin piece by climbing onto the stage and eating the bridge directly off the violin. Thank you!
