That Undercarriage is miraculously clean, most of them are rust jacked up. I would clean that mud up real good, try and clean out the rockers, "a fail spot" along with the center Cab Mount arches, and Oil Coat it entirely underneath including Door Bottoms. It's a rare thing to find any in the rust belt that has survived, it would be a crying shame to ignore that survivor for 30 mins worth of NH oil, Amsoil HD or Fluid Film spray undercoating....It's worth freshening it up some cosmetically some interior work etc. I'd hope you do or it goes to someone who will.

Hello Mortske: Your description of a 2WD towing rig hit the mark.The 4WD & AWD craze was a great marketing program. It made the auto manufactures millions maybe billions. 80% of the 4WD sold today rarely if ever see any actual off road use. Don't let your naysayer subscribers bother you. You can not please everyone. Pricing is a combination of many factors. What you need to make a profit and keep the lights on, and if you can use the vehicle, what the value of that use represents. Keep up the great work and don't worry about Duff not using his bed when you move it That is Duff and he will use his bed when he wants to. Give him an extra pat anyway, he deserves it.

Now you are entering my world 😂. On that point about the 24valve The major downside of the 24-valve Cummins 5.9 was the thinner walls of the cast iron engine block. Specific to the earlier ISB engines (1999 through 2001) stamped with the number “53,” the thinner blocks were susceptible to cracking by the freeze plugs, resulting in coolant leaks. Additionally, while the Bosch VP44 injection pump is decent, it is also one of the more common issues of the 24V engine and can be expensive to repair. The fuel lift pump can also fail. Other problematic parts include the engine’s exhaust manifold, which can crack or leak, and fuel injectors....they are cool, especially the 12 valves they can be tuned with some parts upgrades to exceed 1000 horses with alott of torque.

Very enjoyable sleuthing on the truck. I heard that 2017 and newer Dodge "senses" when there is a scanner "intrusion" that is non dealer. This imprints a permanent notice that voids any warranty. In my mind it makes older models gold and you are offering it at used Hyundai prices, very fair. Thanks as always

Good job Mortske diagnosis on that diesel. Only think I might ad. I don't remember seeing you try to bleed the injectors on the old vp44 pump? If that thing looses prime? The high pressure pump could have just had air in it? You saw how much cranking it took to start your new pump. Even if the pump is bad? You can often get them started by bleeding the air out?

Great video ! i've Got a 1999 Ram 2500 diesel. i Love the truck. i'm Original owner. 210,000 miles at this point. Things i've learned while owning the 99 Ram Diesel. 1. " Check Guages " light comes on for a Few seconds on start up if the Alternator does not bring the battery's back up 12 Volts quick enough. ( Read Note on Drivers side Shade Visor about starting Truck ) so check alternator & if the battery's are 4-5 years old it will do it too. it Never did it with the Stock Original Alternator only after i replaced the Alternator. no issues besides that. 2. it's normal for oil Pressure guage to take 2.5 - 3 seconds on start up to Pop up and see oil pressure. ( Been doing it since day 1 ) 3. " Check Engine Light " Will reset it self after 1 Complete Drive cycle. 4. 99 Came with a Lift pump only on the side of the engine. after they Failed Dodge dealerships would do a retrofit to a in tank pump. so You will see Lift pump trucks & in tank Pump trucks. depending if its been modded. 5. Watch Your Lift pump Fuel Pressure - Put in a Guage if u can. it will save you $1,500.00 for a new Vp44. i'm about to install a Guage soon. 6. if Truck all of a sudden does not start one day. Don't crank on it. it's always the Lift Pump. They die suddenly & usually over night. never had one die while driving. ( Check fuel pressure ) should be around 12-15 psi not to exceed 20 psi. They usually last about 80,000 miles that's it. i've changed mine 3 times in 210,000 miles.

Happy Belated Thanksgiving Mr. Mortske! I hope it was a good one. So, the take-away from this video is: When trouble shooting the electrical system of a Dodge with a starting problem, be prepared to end up with a Black & Tan. I do confess I have partaken. Actually, that sounds good as I haven't had one in a while, and it is the holidays. Speaking of hydration, it occurred to me Duff seems a bit lethargic and while your fleet increases so the need for periodic maintenance. In your case, that means checking fluids at periodic intervals and it's the same for Duff with all those tires. Great video.

The old Bosch VP44 gave up the ghost. Usually a collar ring and plunger wear out inside the pump and they are done for. If they sit with old varnish its the same deal they size up and no good for anything. Not my kind of vehicle but it sure would fit someone who has to haul half of his tools with him 24/7.
@jeffhutchins7048Күн бұрын
If you decide to use that truck/chassis put a FASS or Air Dog lift pump system with a new fuel pick up in the tank. Then a fuel pressure gauge in the cab that will monitor lift pump operation and fuel filter efficiency. After that it will run forever. My '98 24V has 440K on it. Just brought 2 horses back to Orygun from Montana. AND only had one automatic trans. rebuild. Look on the driver's side of the block, just above the oil pan rail, for a block #. If it's a 53 it's the block that CAN crack between the freeze plugs. If it hasn't in 250K it probably won't, especially since your keeping it stock. My 440K 24V is a 53 block. NO CRACKS.😊

I’ve been at the junkyard getting the dash pad for my 2nd gen today. I found a perfect one. Little did I know though.. you have to loosen 2 bolts 1 behind each kick panels to roll the whole dash forward which gives barely enough room to get 2 screws that the factory put in from the windshield side!! My GOD that was horrible!! You can bet the farm when it goes back in mine those 2 screws will NOT be going back in!! And that fuse panel door is always missing too. Cool truck, I am always so impressed with your troubleshooting skillz. Sounds like you want it all black, I think they call that "Murdered out". For paint correction, hit the bad spots with 400, then 1500, then polish. Just like the Dodgeball movie quote you like to use: "Get in there nice and deep like" lol

Nice ride. GREAT buy. Leave the vent visors on it. If you ride around with the windows cracked open and it rains water drips right onto the power window/door lock switches without 'em!
