I love the Vintage Classics. If I had a ****** job, I'd buy most of them. True, there is is a lot of nostalgia involved, but that's what I love about it and being able to use my modelling skills to make them how I wished I could have made them back when I was a kid. It's a challenge, which makes it really, really satisfying when you get a good result. I really can't be doing with ridiculously over complicated modern kits with a bazillion parts and a price tag in the stratosphere. If you're not going to build it Moz, send it to me!😄😄

I built one of those several years ago for my late friend Reg. He was ex-RCAF, as am I now. I built probably close to 300 models for him, including all 25 RCAF Neptunes in the different schemes. The 'Suitcase' was done in 415 Sqn markings, and was simple yet satisfying.

Sad to say MOS having watched airfix and chill the last 2 months I would not waste money on such a old remixed kit thats just thrown into the bag, im sure I could see damage to one of the bombs and the detail is awful, I threw a tamiya figure set in the bin, it was so bad. Airfix are doing themselves no favours and after Alex's video this week on retail side of things I would struggle to support them as a company when there is much better kits out there, ive only been modelling again for 10 months and you guys have opened my eyes to many things, im predominantly a armour modeller but big up airfix and chill and scale mates 👍👍👌 be nice to run into you at Telford MOS 😊

@@leeford6398 I think it’s the nolstagia that brings the value to these vintage classics. People who built them years ago would want to build them again. They have a place especially when a lot of the older boxes have naff decals, this is a way of getting Cartograf decals to finish a build. Almost everything they have tooled in the last 8 years is very very good, in the last 6 years I would put them down as tamiya quality. When it comes to the retail side of things I have my reservations, but Hornby are doing nothing different than any other company selling direct to customer. To say otherwise is disingenuous and not fair.. revell in Germany or eduard in Czech Republic sell direct to customer with deals and vouchers. Online sadly is the future and the only model shops that can compete are those who heavily invest in online retail. Like Jadlam or models for instance. Anyways Airfix are investing heavily in after sales and the retail side, that includes fulfilment. All these things take time And yes I’ll be around on the Saturday at Telford so come and say hi

This kit is definitely showing its age, and since some other companies have come out with newer and better detailed versions of this plane, Airfix should bring out an all new one because some of Airfix's more recently tooled kits are pretty nice and can hold their own with the competition.

I think Airfix use the Vintage Classic releases to test the water. If a release is very popular and/or gets comments like yours David then Airfix consider redesigning/retooling it as a modern kit.

I have about 40 olden days Airfix kits, not the re-released Classics. I intend to make them, plus newer kits, in my retirement ( 2 years away ). I look at them not so much as accurate representations of the real aircraft, but rather an artifact of their time, and will build them out of the box as carefully as I can. Just going to go with the spirit of when the kits were made and enjoy myself!

Was glad when yours was whole. I have a Airfix Red Box issue in the light bluish grey plastic, which is nice and complete. I would like to build another example when this release reaches a store near me.

I've built the 2010 issue of this kit and it can be made into a decent model. I've ordered it again to replace the damaged beyond repair one I previously made but will use parts of the old build and call it a repair/rebuild. There is a Hampden masking set available but bits of tape will do the job too.

I believe ICM are bringing out a brand new tool next year, after seeing a lot of people asking for it
@MetaHughJorgen3 ай бұрын
Gotta love ICM for doing it, they saw comments on a video requesting a Hampden in 1/48, quickly researched the (lack of) kits available, and started the pre-production process immediately. 2025 release, allegedly. I hope they follow up with a 1/72, and I hope Airfix chooses to rebox the ICM kit rather than waste resources making their own.

Not that long ago I built this kit from the 2010 Red Box issue. The moulds certainly have been through the wars so the fit was not that great - especially where the wings were inserted into the fuselage. I bet an original 1968 issue would go together much better. I really would like Airfix to issue a brand new tooling of the Hampden.

Surprised that Airfix haven't at least teased a new tool, but that's obviously not coming for at least 3 years now. Maybe we'll get a 1/48 kit first - quite a good size for a bomber. I don't object to paying for a genuine 'classic' kit, especially if it's a relatively obscure plane that won't get covered otherwise. And it contributes to Hornby's deficit, so it's sort of a charity donation
