Very cool deck tech. the way I usually explain the XX(G) is: "You select what your x is first, let's say you select x=2. Your cost then becomes (2)(2)(G) (converted 5) and you gain 2 counters."

Definitely incorporate some protection for your creature kill so it doesn't die to removal at least as sideboard options against bad match ups that run a lot of removal. Examples: Vines of Vastwood ($1 each) & Blossoming Defense (50 cents each). Also I'd suggest replacing the Naturalizes in the sideboard with Nature's Claim (they're like 25 cents a piece so still budget and your ginormous creature will scoff at the tiny amount of life gain you gave them). An upgrade to this deck would be Walking Ballista so you don't have to rely on combat to kill your opponent (currently around $10 each, but will likely fall some when the new Ravnica set hits because it rotates out of the standard format). However, you could run Goblin Cannon instead of Walking Ballista as a non-combat method of spending infinite green mana to kill your opponent. All it requires is for you to hold priority after you activate it and then pay to activate it again, then repeat that process to put as many activations as you want onto the stack then as they resolve it gets sacrificed and then rest of the triggers don't care if it isn't there to be sacrificed.

In 2021, this deck is not very budget friendly. Utopia sprawl is around 11 USD each, and a play set will run you around 44 bucks. The other massive price is Kalonian Hydra almost twenty usd each. A play set is close to 76 bucks. Some substitutes for these cards that can tide you over until you can get your hands on them are fertile grounds. For one colourless and a green, “enchant land, whenever enchanted land is tapped for mana, it’s controller adds and additional one mana of any colour” so basically it does what we need to get infinite mana but it’s a 2 mana card. You can’t really substitute anything for Kalonian Hydra, my recommendation would be just throw a play set of Verdurous Gearhulks in there until you get the Kalonian hydra. 5:52 no. 3 3/3 will enter the battlefiel than 6:05 no. The effekt of colonian hydra do not effekt the tokens becorse they does not have got any +1/+1 counters on it. in stead they are x/x. So they doesn‘t get x +x/+x counters

I know I know this is a budget deck but yeah, people should try this with a bunch of cantrips and turn it into a real combo deck. I wonder if Zhur-Taa Druid and orochi would work in this shell. Okay let's feed the wolves even more... fetchlands and forest/shocklands would give you access to thoughtsieze and/or red/blue spells. Blossoming defense protects your pieces. If you're willing to fight and your deck goes infinite mana you could benefit from the miracle spell Bonfire. First planeswalkers coming to my mind are Simic x Nissa, First Garruk and Saheeli. I the x hydra with protection from blue and haste must be the best hydra, getting rid of the rest would be the primary step.

My coworkers and I used to play a ton during the Innistrad Block. 2 cards I think might be cool techs for this deck from around then are Predator Ooze and Increasing Savagery. In case you haven't heard of them Predator Ooze is a 1/1 for 3 Forest and it's Indestructible with "It gets a +1/+1 counter each time it attacks" and "if target creature is destroyed by Predator Ooze put a +1/+1 counter on Predator Ooze." And Increasing Savagery is a 2 Forests and 2 sorcery and it has; put 5 +1/+1 counters on target creature. Flashback 5 and 2 Forests. If cast from the graveyard put 10 +1/+1 counters on creature instead.

Karametras acolyte is a great card I haven’t heard of before. I have a green devotion deck that’s all about adding an obscene amount of mana to your mana pool and spending it on card effects and dumping huge spells onto the battlefield. I normally use Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx to add green mana equal to my devotion but with this card too, that’s gonna get insane

Hahaha I already have that combination in my hydra deck😂😂 never knew it could do that 😂 I can also pop put thousands of tokens, make them all have thousands of attack and defence. Make them all hexproof with trample. Gain thousands of life. And so one. It's pretty beast and the only way to really stop it is with flyers if you can get enough to kill me before everything is outrageous, which usually I do by turn 5. Or board wipe. But that works best if its exile because of a 2 drop instant that gives them all indestructible. Usually I win by turn 7 to 10. But now that I know that combo, I might be able to make that a tad bit quicker

Hmm. The interaction between Kalonian Hydra and Hydra Broodmaster doesn't quite work like that. Kalonina doubles the counters, and while that does work on the broodmaster itself, the tokens it creates don't have any counters on them. They are X/X not 0/0 with X +1/+1 counters.

ok this just made that red/green hydra i made look ridiculously slow, comparatively. This is insane! that blue card was in the kamigawa block if i'm not mistaken. I'm not too familiar with that set. I mostly just know about the spirits and pretty sure the ninjas are from there too. Infinite mana turn 2 without using artifacts is impressive. Props to the guy who came up with that.

I love Hydra decks! That looks absolutely nasty. I tell my roommates about the deck techs and get so many eye rolls lol. Ever thought about doing a hydra tribal commander deck? Got the idea when I saw Polukranos but you could use Progenitus as the commander so you have more color variety. Anyway, sweet deck. Imagine this: the deck you are up against is black/White and got the first turn. Oppenent got plains and swamp untapped. So, when you are totally certain to just shake hands, the opponent throws down Swords to Plowshares, Dark Ritual and False Cure! BAM! 😂 I also found it ironic that the first card in your sideboard, Fog, could also protect against this. And then a lot of black cheap removal could end it. However, against most decks it would be a win of course! 😁 Awesome combo though, endless possibilities with endless green mana. You could also just go for Stream of life and get endless life. For drawn out games, you can choose other colors for the lands you enchant. I would include fireballs and such spells instead of the other fancy hydras, would be a lot cheaper to buy I think. It all depends on what you're up against.

I know I'm just being pedantic. But, attached cards (such as auras and equipment) do not tap when their attached permanent taps. Copperhoof Vorrac and Flowstone Embrace are two good examples that show why your auras & equipment do not tap since they themselves can have or gain tap abilities. (Look at Clock of Omens) This is why I always put my enchantments behind the card they're enchanting. Makes it easier to manipulate the card that's actually tapping.

If you want to make it a little cheaper, throw out a few of the expensive hydras and put in 4 stream of life. 1 green X = gain X life. So if you have infinite mana, but no hydra, having infinite life does put you at an advantage of staying alive :)

I actually have a RUG version of this deck that is based around hydras. But it is quite expensive but it wins alot of the time by turn 4. Blue for control/ midrange matchups. And sideboard and main both run 2 flings for consistency purposes. Its only expensive because of the mana base which most players who plah hardcore have this so they sre not limited to certain decks such as myself. As i love to play different decks. I traded a playset of lilis to get all 40 shocklands and 2 playsets of fetches value of 700 at the time lili was worth 600 for a set. The deck also runs metamorphosis for mana fixing and also thins my deck to get threats.

1. Common mistake, don't call the mana by their basic land type. Forests do not make "Forest Mana", they make Green Mana. That's why the Sprawl says 'pick a color'. 2. The combo is good if you get it T2, but you do need perfect card draw. The Rancor is only really necessary if they have a non-blue blocker. And past T3 a lot of things can go wrong. 3. If you really want to make the combo your main goal I wouldn't bother with the other Hydras. I'd get some removal, since you're playing blue anyways maybe add some bounce and counters and islands. Does seem like a lot of fun to pull off tho. :P

Edit: Missed the Haste. Walking Ballista could be used as well as a turn 2 kill, but it is more expensive. Also, add Duskwatcher Recruiter to pull any number of creatures from your library to your hand (ie your walking Ballista.) To be honest, you can do infinite green mana with Vizier of Remedies and Devoted Druid. Same concept, only 2 cards needed for infinite with no Forest requirement. A lot more expensive since it is better.

10:24 is wrong it would be 3 mana, not 4 because one is already tapped. This would take another turn to complete. Also, it would take another turn after that one because when you create a new blue mana, it is tapped because you use it to make another one. Therefore on turn 3 you will only have 3 or 4 mana max, but the turn after that is infinite.

Honestly, I prefer Voyaging Satyr over some of the ramp options here. It's basically extra copies of Arbor Elf for going infinite. Of course, I ran the really expensive Blue Sun Zenith version of this deck, so it needed to go infinite.

this is an infinite mana combo (and there are ones that run less cards to pull it) so basically you can get this "insta win" with any creature/spell tha t can deal damage to your enemy

Tiggy227 Ok, so here's how it works. On turn 2, you have Arbor Elf, and 2 Forests. You tap 1 forest to play Utopia Sprawl, and enchant the untapped forest (you call blue). You tap the enchanted forest for G/U, then you use Arbor Elf to untap the enchanted forest, and you re tap the enchanted forest for another G/U. You now have 2 G, and 2 U in your mana pool.

Really you need to increase the combo elements for greater consistency. You need 15 turn one green sources, so the rest can be islands which allows you to add wild growths then add a low cost creature that allows you to untap any land (hopefully one exists for 2 mana). I'm not sure there is an additional way to replicate the untap feature of the blue enchantment cheaply. Frantic search can help with digging for the combo and is cheap. These additions increase the chance of a combo victory but on turn 3 or later.

@@JoseGarcia-vi3pu because there are a lot of 1-2 mana removal spells like 'path to exile' or 'go for the throat' which every competitive deck runs. also, with a combo which needs 4 cards you'll often get hands that are not optimal and once your combo pieces are gone, (don't forget 'duress', 'thoughtseize' and other discard spells or combo-hate cards like 'pithing needle') the deck is too slow, i think

Great deck! But I wanna show off my ultimate Hydra deck. So here we go! 25x forests 1xNykthos Shrine to Nyx 4x Karametras Acolyte's 2x Haze of Pollen 1x Commencement of Festivities 3x plummets 1x whirlwind 1x revealing wind 1x wildest dreams 1x reclaim 1x nyleas disciple 1x asceticism 1x Sandwurm Convergence 2x Dictate of karametra AND NOW FOR THE HYDRAS Here's all the 1x copy hydras I have; Vastwood Hydra, ulvenwald hydra, honored hydra, heroes bane, Oran rief hydra, primordial hydra, kalonian hydra, hydra omnivore,hydra broodmaster, polukranos, world eater, hooded hydra, hungering hydra, miscutter hydra and last but not least, the legendary. The feared and The Soul Of The World! Progenitus. And I also have two Genesis hydra in there. Now to just sum up what the deck does, it Mana ramps without a combo for infinite, only because I want to play casually and not be "that guy" so I use Karametras Acolyte's, and nykthos shrine to Nyx to ramp, then cast things like hydra omnivore on turn 4 then get bigger things out ect. But once my devotion can't account for 10 plus two forests AT LEAST, then casting Genesis hydra for 10 or more, let's me find either Hydra broodmaster, and just fill the battlefield with an army of huge hydra (highest I've gotten was 80 something) OR find my two Mana of every color progenitus, and win in the next three turns. Fun to play! Lots of beginning fog and air removal, but if there is no air I have more of a horrible deck with things like praetors counsel, and primal surge. Which are high cost, but my deck makes it pretty easy to get em out. Anyway, that's my prize deck! And thanks for reading! (P.S. I know that black/white removal is a huge issue for my deck but it still presents opportunities within those losses. I promise)

I think you should take out all the other random hydras and focus on assembling the combo as quick as you can, since if you don't get a critical mass of mana acceleration, all the other hydras are way too slow. Also, I'd recommend adding in some protection for the combo, since it's really fragile and easy to disrupt

yeah slap all the elves into it instead like elvish mystic and llanowar elves you'll be able to mana ramp much quicker if you don't get enough land drops probably throw in some ezuri's archers for reach so you can stall
