A journey from paintings by the masters who laid the foundations of Impressionism to the works of world-famous contemporary artists. The very concept of “Russian Impressionism” still causes heated debate. Born at the end of the 19th century, Russian Impressionism had almost acquired its own voice before it began to be actively replaced by the avant-garde. After the revolution, it found itself outside of the system. But against all odds, many artists, both before and after the political upheaval in the country, continued to create in the impressionistic style, to experiment with light and colour on their canvases, sought to convey mood, emotion, and catch the finest air vibrations. Impressionism still inspires artists today. The tour is guided by the director of the museum, Yulia Petrova.
