You should use the green can of brake clean, non chlorinated. The red leaves a residue.

Goes to show how doing things on your own the right way can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars especially in the long run. unpainted gun= 500 dollars painted gun= 650 dollars I know they use special paint/ processes/ technology in factories but I'm not exactly looking to take my gun to Alaska or space. I just need something that looks nice and helps keep rust out especially with a Mossberg 88.

I own a Maverick 88 as well, I really like how that sage green color looks. It looks like it is kind of rough on the surface as well, have you seen any of the color come off after using the slide a couple times? Really good video, I'm probably going to use your video as a guide on how to do mine. Thanks.

Did you bake in an extra oven in a garage or was it your kitchen oven? I've heard mixed things about using my kitchen oven.

Not saying to do it but will tell you what I experience. Brownells doesn't put off hardly any odor, when I once paint I let it air dry for a hour or so outside . Then I place the peace into my kitchen oven ( This is how I do all my guns when baking) I have found it leaves no odors in the oven or lingering in the house you well get a little smell while baking but nothing bad. But do what feels right for you maybe do a small peace and test it for yourself I only use Brownells paint any other brand I have 0 experience with Hope this helps and your gun turns out great anymore questions just shoot me a message I'll be happy to try and help have a Great day

How did you manage to fit that big ol barrel in your kitchen oven?!?

Good question be happy to explain. The oven door liked about 2" closing so I took aluminum foil and covered the crack. This allowed all the heat to stay in closed and not escaping the oven. Works perfect on longer barrels.

Excellent info. 2 questions. 1. Did you take the guts out of the receiver out? 2. Are you seeing much wear on the mag tube from the slide action?

How do you cover the bead sights? Or do you?

I take a pair of pliers and just remove it due to baking the paint on in oven. Then just little blue lock tight and replace

Ok wasn't sure if the front head was pressed in or screwed in. Do you cover the screw hole when you paint it?
