Just a general discussion on why I think electric bikes have taken off in the more hobby oriented market. What made you decide to purchase an electric bike?

Got mine after losing my left leg. Have to ride seated 99.9% of the time and need pedal assist to clear features I used to be able to clean without issue.

If ebikes allow you to still do what you love, that's awesome!

I got my Trance E PRO 2 two months ago, i won t look back, that bike has been absolutely a game changer. I can now ride 35 kms flat out without getting super tired or dismounting when the uphill arise . I ride everyday running the battery to 02 % , but one thing that surprised me is how, stable, capable and alive that Giant is. 1200 meters climb, average 20.4 kph and 5 hilly mountains each rides, it s a complete workout and a great day out . I could never have done that on my Mtb. but with the E... yes , let s do it !!

Battery tech has improved immensely. The small, 2 seat GM electric car from the 1990s weighed 3,000 pounds and had bad range. Today batteries have better energy density based on volume and mass.

Great little journey through time, thanks. I ride a pedelec MTB as I'm closer to 60 than 50 and climbing on my Giant Trance was triggering off Patellafemural (knee) pain. The Raymon Fullray 150 E, 70nm 250 W bike with 630Wh battery is amazing at getting me up steep, gnarly climbs. I enjoy the descents just as much as on my Trance.

I use my ebike for transportation, visiting friends, running errands, playing tennis, or cruising with other ebikers. But I still do ride road bike's for fitness. I know that by maintaiing a certain level of fitness it means I can ride with lower level of power from my ebike, which allows me to travel further and use less juice. It pays to be fit, especially when you reach an elderly age.

We should really call them mopdes. The term moped means "motorized velocipede" and that's exactly what these are.

Except the whole thing of them not being mopeds

Cadence sensor, sure. I can agree with that. Torque sensor is the closest to analog biking. No effort, no go!

I am still riding an analog bike around backroads where I live but I’m saving for an eBike. At 62, I’d feel a little safer being able to accelerate away from big dogs and shady people. Pedaling home through the hilly terrain where I live in the Ozark Highlands, would be great too.

I love e-bikes. I don’t own one…yet, but will get one eventually. I’m 50 years old with knee reconstruction surgery. I cannot ride like I rode when I was even 40 and before surgery. Ebike will help me ride more and stay on the trails to be able to enjoy the sport I love as I’m not ready to trade my bikes for tactical slippers just yet.

They're popular because everyone wants instant gratification in everything.

You're not wrong, but they play a big role in getting older people who used to enjoy the sport when they were more able-bodied.
@dustyburner11 ай бұрын
A lot of the first training I took through Giant years ago focused on how this would help less able-bodied people get out and get exercise. Now the focus is more on able-bodied people to get an ebike. Too, this sort of thing appeals to people who don't or can't put the time in to be a fast rider. I just turned 60 YO and I'm considering adding one to the stable.

I'm 65 and at a point where I still do cycling events, but find recovering from training takes longer. I took advantage of Specialized blowout sale and picked up a Kenevo Expert. I knew it would make climbing and training recovery rides easier, but what's blown me away is how fun it is. It's great for casual rides when you don't want to work hard or those days when you want to get out and explore.

I use a electric motorcycle (talaria x3) as a commuter. Though it is more like a hybrid between a ebike and a edirtbike. For commuting with cars its great. Compared to an actual gas motorcycle the maintenance is cheaper and has less of learning curve. I have a top speed of about 45-47 which i can keep up with traffic since most roads are between 35 and 45. I wear a full face helmet. When using bikelane or trials i always go 20 and yield to cyclist. I hop on the sidewalk to skip cars in congestion or going slower to increase range. I dont under stand the hostility towards these bikes. The whole point is pushing micromobility and leaving car dependence.

The people that think you can't get a workout on an ebike are deluded. I got one so that I didn't need to rely on an uplift service. I've got a manual too but use that for XC and trails and the very occasional DH where I use an uplift.

55 year old former MTB rider. Recently picked up an Aventon Aventure 2 e bike to get back on 2 wheels and work commute. Am now looking inro an ebike MTB hard tale to get back on single-track and if i drop enough weight i still have my Titus Switchblade analog in the garage. We'll see.

I’d disagree on the speed. I use my emtb to get to the trail as well and my normal speed is 28kph so the assist working up to 32 is huge to me. I’d be annoyed if it quit at 25 kph. As for why I ended up going emtb… the old knee isn’t what it used to be and this gets me up the hill with a fresh enough knee to enjoy coming down. Usually getting more laps and staying on the bike much longer.

The only way I'd ride an E Bike is for transportation, for sport use, an e Bike defeats the purpose.
