mossman381 Does your dad still have this truck? my grandfather had the same truck, color,engine,cab, and even had the cb antenna

We still have the truck but the front axle has gone out so no plowing the last 2 years. Dad just got a new truck and I traded some things for this truck. Not sure it's worth saving or not. It has a lot of issues.

@@mossman381 did you have any issues with the weight of plow on the duramax crew cab? I'm putting a plow on my 05 and no plow manufacturers have anything for it due to weight from what I see.
@mossman3814 жыл бұрын
@@okiedokie3845 The front axle went out because of lack of fluid. A plow will put more stress on your front end parts. The reason no plows are recommended is because of the front axle rating. You will go over that with a snowplow. Many people run plows on these trucks. My opinion is you can run any straight blade and go up to an 8'6" v plow and be fine. If you beat your truck while plowing then probably expect some type of damage.

@@mossman381 Back 35 years ago, when I plowed for a living, I had a Dodge W150 with a 7.5' Meyer plow and even then, some of the hilly and narrow driveways I plowed were tight for that truck. I had driveways with 40% grade that went around a turn and up to the house overlooking the lake. Many nasty jobs like that, which I got because no other contractor would take the jobs. I couldn't dream of doing those driveways with my Silverado that I have now. Especially the back up visibility on my present truck makes judging how close I am to something very tricky. But I got the truck in September, so it's relatively new to me.

Fucking idiot!! Being a KZbinr you should be preaching the right things to do.. not put a 9.5’ plow with wings on a your other dusky you had it on that can’t even hold a 7.5’ straight blade according to the manufacturers specs who know your truck more then you,, your an embarrassment to KZbin..

Your axle isn't going to fail. I have never even heard of an axle failure on one of these trucks because of a snowplow. NEVER!!!! I have actually seen some frame cracking when guys run big v-plows and wings but those were in Canada, so I wonder if the extreme cold didn't have something to do with that. I am not going to argue with you about this because there are countless trucks running huge plows with no issues. A 7'6" is nothing for these trucks. There are people in this world that get stuff done and there are people in this world that are scared of their own shadow and get nothing done. I can guess what you are.

@mossman381 Жыл бұрын
No, it's not the same thing to overload a trailer 5000lbs and install an 800lbs snowplow on an HD truck. So, you are really only overloading the axle by 400lbs or so. Is that going to cause the axle to fail? Not in my experience. I wouldn't tell someone to do something unless I was 100% sure it was ok. Not everything is black and white. A little experience will tell you that.

Some of the GM trucks sit pretty low in the front. I think in this video the truck didn't have bump stops. They had rotted off. I would adjust the torsion bars for the plow but dad doesn't do that. Leaf springs vs torsion bars the leaf springs will win when it comes to carrying weight. That is why the rear has leaf springs yet. The truck probably plows maybe 5% of its miles. I guess I would rather have a soft ride the other 95% and live with the plow pulling the front end down. Turning up the torsion bars for winter really helps these trucks.
