China restricted platforms such as Facebook and KZbin because they do not want to agree to the censorship regulations of the Chinese government. For platforms that do agree to the regulation, such as LinkedIn, they can indeed operate in China. The problem with the Tiktok case is that, it is banned because of its perceived association with China. There is no particular regulation Tiktok can follow to avoid the ban. This is a discrimination issue, not a regulation issue, under the disguise of national security.

They don't want to follow the law in China, that includes having a server in China, allowing China to collect evidence if someone use the platform to commit crimes, etc. Google wanted to follow the law in China until US government forced Google to reject it.

FB and KZbin are actually not banned by China. They have chosen to not follow the local laws to pretend operating with fake high morals to please US government.

Facebook is not banned in China. Any time it wants, it can establish a Chinese entity, follow Chinese law and compete in the market. It has chosen not to participate.

Isn’t it ironic that Tik Tok 🇺🇸 complied with all laws and regulations and yet was banned. Can’t say the same for Facebook and KZbin in 🇨🇳 who refused to do the same!

Tik Tok complies with American laws and is banned under a false pretext. Microsoft, Meta, Alphabet and others refused to comply with Chinese laws and chose to leave the country. U.S. media and politicians choose to ignore this huge difference.

As of today, TikTok is considered one of the largest social media platforms with over 1 billion monthly active users globally, and 170 million users are in USA. So yes, TikTok would rather shutdown its US operations since US is only a small part of its user base.

TikTok has a china version called Douyin. TikTok tried to serve the US market by being in compliance to the US regulations and political demands. Putting the server in the US, moved TikTok headquarters to Singapore, and bent backward just to please the US politicians. It is forced to separate the service between its china and the US operations just because of the US government BS.

The 170M US users need TT more because of 7M businesses and 170M users which more than total of US citizens all age 15-60. So let the users pressure their govt. it has nothing to do with TT or its operations.

...and somehow he went to retaliation. Its "supposed" to be a national issue concern. Lets go with that - so there is already an security issue. Since all countries spy on each other somewhat the retaliation is already in play. Its a social media site not a brick and mortar business what he thinks TikTok is about. Its going to be interesting how its done as the apps will still be on phones.

Facebook etc. never actually registered to do business in China. For them to legally operate in China, they need to host their data in Chinese data centers (which is what TikTok is doing for the US market by the way, hosting their data in US data centers). As a result, Chinese ISPs block access to Facebook etc. for Chinese users.

US social medias are not banned. They refused to be abided to China's data/information regulations, that's why they are not allowed to operate in China. TikTok tried every possible way to comply with the requirements and regulations but is still banned because of its Chinese ownership. Can't you see the difference?
